Trainspotting is right up there, along with another Danny Boyle film The Beach (but on balance I'd have to say I prefer the book).

Completely agree. It also contains one of the most romantic lines in film (only when said in French, of course

    ).

Sans toi, les émotions d'aujourd'hui ne seraient que la peau morte des émotions d'autrefois.

(Without you, today's emotions would be but the scurf of yesterday's)

More than I'd think, when I stop to think about it

The Lotus Eaters; War of the Buttons; The Cat Returns; My Neighbor Totoro; The Lost Boys; Closet Land; M*A*S*H; Rocky Horror Picture Show ... the list goes on. And that's in addition to the films I do watch over and over with my daughter: Wall-E; Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs; A Bug's Life ... again, the list goes on.

It's more that I'd think, when I stop to think about it.

Mulholland Drive is an actual road that winds its way through the hills overlooking Hollywood.

In the film, the road itself is like the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland.

    The Dish -

I swear I can watch that movie over and over again and I will laugh myself senseless each time. Made by the same people who made The Castle, but I never found The Castle as amusing as The Dish. The writing is brilliant, the acting superb and the music is all of the above. It is one of my all time favourites.

    As for the rest..

Any movies my kids want to watch.. over and over again.

    There are a few others..

Fifth Element is but one that I enjoy each time.
The original version of Persuasion - romantic Jane Austen adaptation of the book which actually came close to the mark.. yes, I'm sappy about the book itself

The original Star Wars - granted my husband makes me sit and watch it with him.. *sigh*
    All Monty Python movies
And last but not least, The Princess Bride.. still cracks me up after all these years.

I'm that way about the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

If only to see Colin Firth jumping into the lake behind Pemberly. <flutters eyelashes>

Indeed. Although he looks better after he climbs out of the lake and is walking his house towards Pemberley.. *drool*

That version of Pride and Prejudice is one of the all time greats, well one of my all time greats. I tend to not watch it over and over since it is 6+ hours long and my husband would end up in the fetal position on the floor in the cupboard.

I do watch it at least once every 3 months though.. it is a good way to ensure I have a peaceful afternoon. My husband and my son's tend to run screaming for the car and disappear for the full 6 hours that I spend watching it. And I make sure I watch the whole thing..

Ah.. It is coming up to that time where I would not mind lying down on the couch with a nice cold drink and peace and quiet again.. Hmmmm..

Ah well I never watch it all at once. And I have a bad habit of FF to my favorite bits of dialogue

I don't think anyone else could watch it with me without going nuts

Well its true. Do you know how many times I have read the book? What I like most about the Firth adaptation, is how close they stayed to Austens work. I read the book when I was very little and my imagination was limited by what I had seen. I could not have imagined the assemblies, the dances, the gowns. Taking a turn around the room seemed as bizarre to me [even if it was to attract the eminent Mr Darcy's eye] as entailed estates that were given only to male heirs [enter the cousin]. The series made it all real to me - I realised only much later that I took the classeism for granted and was quite relieved that though high in the instep and extremely haughty, Mr Darcy was as untitled as Elizabeth and they could meet as equals [well, apart from the 10,000 a year]. I don't doubt there were many Miss Bennetts and I thought Jane was a complete bore and Bingham a complete idiot, but the Mrs Bennet was like any other Indian mama

My second most favourite adaptation of that book is Trishna, which also follows the book exactly, except that instead of Regency England, its based in modern India.

I always wanted to see Georgette Heyer on screen, but she doesn't translate too well n screenplay

Watching these once would be too much for me.

Also how do you know the exact # of times you watched these movies?

Because the ones I have put the number of times I have watched are my favorites and I can recall almost any part in all those movies, verbatim.

I am only a geek (note: not nerd) when I want to be.
