I get annoyed when I open a thread, read a few posts, and then discover I can not comment as thread is closed.
Why not move closed threads to special folder, which if you want, could have subfolders idential to the main list? That would keep the for example the Physics and Math group of closed thread in one sub group of closed threads, but I think only one folder for all closed threads would be OK.

You don't like the big lock icon?

As most treads I open are not locked, I don't look for it. Infact, I only know about a line of text, not an icon. I'll try to findit.

Depends on how you approach the forums. If you hit New Posts, like I do, you'll see posts lists in rows with columns: Title, Replies, Views , Last Message.
Thread status Icons - such as 'Sticky', 'Watched', and 'Locked' display at the far right of the Title column.
