Laws did not exist before government agencies of enforcement.
And the problem was not that the bars went bust or didn't, but that the bad alcohol injured and killed people. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people a year. For years on end. As it does in many places today. And nobody gets sued.

The reason is that it costs money to throw away bad booze, and much less to market it in such a way that the injury, if any, cannot be traced to its source.
That isn't true. All Americans can legally purchase their choice of butter - even those who live in Wisconsin, although they might have to drive a ways to find a seller.
You keep getting corporations confused with people.

Law enforcement agencies are not the same as regulatory agencies.

But as a Statist Authoritarian, I can see how you would be in favor of regulating each and every aspect of every Citizen of the Nation State's life. Hey look here, one of our Progressive Paradises decided Twitch streamers will require a State License in Germany - you know, for safety. Because, one time, once, a hundred years ago, someone sold some off meat to a moron.

Let's see how long before we require a State ID to log into the Internet.

No, Americans can buy the butter of their Regulators choice - mostly from a State regulated rent-seeker.

You think that a State regulatory agency should license procreation?

    That's not true.
Corporations are not people. Forbidding A is not the same as choosing among B,C,D, and E. There is a reality. Really. I'm not just funnin' you - there is an actual difference between a commercial corporation marketing food to the public and a human being inviting you to dinner.

    Imagine that:

As his presidency wound down, Barack Obama visited Canada to thank the U.S. neighbor and ally for its friendship. When the Democrat spoke to the Canadian Parliament, he received a rapturous welcome, which culminated in a surprisingly loud chant: “Four more years! Four more years!”

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Donald Trump will never receive that kind of outpouring of affection north of the border.

President Donald Trump has shifted his sharpest economic criticism away from the southern U.S. border and toward the neighbor to the north.

His tougher talk on Canada – over longstanding dairy and lumber disputes – is raising concerns that a renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement could grow more complicated and affect Ottawa as much as Mexico City.

At an event in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Trump said he’s not pleased with Canada. “We’re going to get together and we’re going to call Canada, and we’re going to say, ‘What happened?’” the president said. “And they might give us an answer, but we’re going to get the solution, not just the answer, okay? Because we know what the solution is, all right?”

True, this is irrelevant to the topic as, well, it's Michael's thread, but for the rest of us, yeah, sure, it has something to do with something.
