    ohh, ok. I will be sure to get some of those diodes.

    the usb joystick is a potential class project. I was wondering what kind of work I am in for, and if you knew of any resources.

    You need to find the protocols to get the computer and the joystick to talk to each other. Microsoft publishes its HID protocols on its website for free, if I remember correctly, and there ought to already be one established for a USB joystick.
