Some help please, does anybody know the word for the opposite of paranoia? I`m stumped. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
denial not my fault it only has 6 letters in it, forcing me to type all this nonsense that didn't have to be here. it's ridiculous really. now i'm just typing for the hell of it. it could have been a 6 character post. but now it's a...bunch of character post. take off the limit! stop character fascism now!
Nope. thats just lacking emotion and interest.the opposite has gotta be something like you feel the whole world and everybody in it thinks your great. Something like egocentric does`nt really fit, nor does egomania. This has been bugging me for days now. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I would venture that a reasonable opposite to being paranoid is being naive. To be paranoid is to be mistrustful and hardened. To be naive is to be unsuspecting and inexperienced. Or 'gullible', maybe that works.
GOOD QUESTION! at first it seemed silly but after a perfunctory search I came up blank, then I started looking harder and harder and now I can see why this has been bugging you. One thing I found helpful was someone pointed out that paranoia is a "defined clinical state" therefore requires no antonym. This same person also asked "since it's used casually, has an antonym evolved?" and got quite a few good responses, you can find this discussion at http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/3963
tolerant forgiving accepting trusting relaxed levelheaded (and all synonyms found in MSWord thesaurus)
I don't mean it in the clinical sense, I assumed we were talking about the more casual use of the word.
How about "pronoia"? "Pronoia is the suspicion that the universe is a conspiracy on your behalf." Sort of a made up word, but it works.
NICE ONE Alpha! it gets a bit dodgy when a word isn't "officially" recognized but thats the way language adapts. I was afraid you'd made it up yourself but it has been around for about 10 years from the little I've read, thanks for adding that. "Pronoia" is, by far, the best choice offered here so far. I found a little blurb about the word here, http://www.quinion.com/words/turnsofphrase/tp-pro5.htm.
Thanks for your efforts people. You have given me loads of ammo to take down the pub and look a smart ass with my friends. I will of course take all the credit! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
