Justified because its an attempt at humour? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! This photograph was used in the music magazine 'Q', with the caption: "Oohh, I could murder a chinese." I would like peoples thoughts on this. edit- corrected title of thread
A- It's not funny B- It's kinda insulting C- It doesn't make any sense Edit: Got the joke just after posting...still not funny Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Perhaps the person doesn't know what the meaning of the word courage is. I wonder how many of us here would have the balls to make a stand like that against overwhelming odds all by yourself.
Depends on the reason It seems an abstract joke. What issue? A friend of mine reads Q regularly, so I can just pop over and look it up for myself. On edit: Though it may be legend, I've always believed the original reports that the protester, an old man, died shortly after the photo was taken. thanx, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
This artical was quite a while ago actually, last year sometime. It just crossed my mind when i seen this photo and thought i would post it. But if your freind is a regular reader (which im not) they'll remmeber it i suppose. I must admit, i did find it quite clever at the time but i didnt think it funny. The protester i believe was a young student. It was the students that were protesting against the totalarian regiem (sp) in China, i think its an annual occurance. I read that the tank protester did indeed go missing. What i was getting at too was; "Because something are meant to be jokes should they be allowed?" cheers.
I'm a comedy fan so I think everything is justified for comedy purposes. Nothing is sacred........but that's not funny.
Absolutely. No it is not funny. Yes it is in bad taste. That said, an individual or a magazine editor should have the freedom to learn from the backlash that is likely to occur from the printing of this picture and caption. Everyone has a line they feel should not be crossed. Unfortunately, that line is in a different place for us all, which often leads us to indignation regarding another person's point of view. Peace.
I don't think it should have been allowed, but as Goofy said, the writer had the freedom to do it. That student stood up for what he believed in against all odds. Just that picture alone inspires hope into people.
In my opinion it should have been allowed -- not allowing it would have been censorship, which i'm against. I think the stupidity of it speaks for itself though, and reflects poorly on the magazine. Not even the immortal omnipotent immature Q would be so asinine, unless he was imitating an asinine human, as in the post-apocalyptic courtroom.
