I've noticed a prevalent theme of boxcars in a lot of punk music. Where does this come from?

In the Pixies' song "Here Comes Your Man," a boxcar is mentioned, but I think it's in relation to Bock's Car, the plane that dropped the second nuke.

The Ataris did a cover of Boxcar (who did the original escapes me), and was it this original that started the boxcar theme?

Blink 182 reformed as Boxcar Racer.

Is there a relationship between the boxcars?

    If so, what is it?

    My thoughts are
    a) boxcar is indeed Bock's car,
    b) boxcar has a drug/alcohol bad thing theme associate with it, or possibly teenagehood, or hobos
    c) mentioning boxcars is acknowledgment of whoever wrote the song first
    d) Something about the Boxcar Kids book series?

    Maybe it's a hobo reference.
