And so it goes: Iran and world powers reached a framework agreement on Thursday on curbing Iran's nuclear program for at least a decade, a step toward a comprehensive accord that could end 12 years of brinkmanship, threats and confrontation. The tentative agreement, after eight days of marathon talks in Switzerland, clears the way for talks on the future settlement that should allay Western fears that Iran was seeking to build an atomic bomb and in return lift economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic. The framework is contingent on reaching an agreement by June 30 and all sanctions on Iran remain in place until a final deal is reached. (Charbonneau and Nebehay↱) And now the heat is on. The end of June will be a tough deadline for anyone to meet, even if the process wasn't complicated by warmongering hardliners in the U.S. and Iran alike. Still, though, I suppose there will be some sport in watching the #GOP47 freak out; even before the achievement was announced, the issue had become so obsessing that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), responding to inquiries about his state's ostensible religious freedom bill, compared Arkansas to Iran↱. Yes. Really. And as the Iran deal plays out on Capital Hill, I'll go out on a limb and predict more and more wild events associated with the Middle East, China, the dollar, and precious metals happening around the globe in the next 20 days, with a net associated decline in world wide market capitalization of trillions and trillions. My timing is usually wrong, but crash talk is reaching a frenzy in the conspiracy blogs.
