I'm not sure how "capitalism" has much to do with plastic in the ocean. Do you mean that we should not make anything out of plastic? The problem is throwing plastic in the ocean.

Do most "capitalists" throw plastic in the ocean? I think most educated and economically healthy countries don't do that.

    I said unbridled capitalism.

Yea, we (the US) sent ours to China, and they threw it into the ocean. And we pat ourselves on the back that we were sooo into protecting the environment.
Our landfill rates are on the rise, so what should be done?

Is it a fact that they threw it in the ocean? If so then don't send it to China. Plastic is stable and some can be used in our landfills.

If we have too much to property dispose of then we need to manufacture less plastic. Or we need better contracts with the companies in China that we send it to. I don't see it as a "capitalism" problem.

Such "socialism" solves that particular problem because it doesn't produce anything and people are poor but that produces even more problems.

If we are going to call any problem that we haven't solved "unbridled" capitalism then I guess that's fair enough.
