Would everyone please post one or more facts about nature's decline (pollution, nuclear waste, extinction, so forth...).

In the year 2050, scientists project that there will be 9 BILLION people in the world. Most of whom live in India.

This is so we can all spread the news to arrogant greedy people who consume our resources and destroy our earth, but we shall do so in a positive way.

The atmosphere will move to another step in its cycle, eliminating the ozone hole.

The ice caps will get bigger and more glaciers will appear as we go into another ice age. Ocean levels will drop drastically.

Some smart politicain will figure out how to convince people to build an large chain of high-efficiency nuclear reactors that will be able to reprocess and reuse nuclear fuel, producing minimal amounts of waste requiring long-term storage.

We're overdue for an ice age. I think there's supposed to be once every 1000 years or something. Actually, that's probably way out. Anyway! Overdue!

and it is also expected that the human population will start decreasing soon after that.

That isnt the problem. The problem lies in that there will be very limited resources for these people. Not only in the year 2050, but the population leading up to this date will be disasterous. Seriously, where are all of these people going to get food, clothing, WATER...etc?

The population will decrease because of the death toll. Something that these damn Americans care nothing about (yes- I am American).

This is ridiculus! What do the Enviornmentalist think of themselves? The Nostradamus or what?

All of us are aware of these problems. Its like Worrying about Sun becoming Red Giant Star one day.And one more thing.More than a Billion Dollar goes into Weather and other enviornmental research today.People eat Bread from this. Therefore they feel its their responsibility to bother people, because if no one cares, then the research will stop...what would happen to their own JOBS!?!?

Come on...we cant even predict Weather for couple of days and we promise to predict such things accurately in the long run?BAH!

but zion, as some people in other threads have claimed. Science is objective and tells us the truth. Don't you believe them?

    how rude of you.

    Science vs. Truth

Science yields facts, Philosophy gives us truth. Facts are numbers, Truths are subjective and often depend on our point of view.

"A child born today in an industrialized country will add more to consumption and pollution over his or her lifetime than 30 to 50 children born in developing countries."

"If current trends continue, almost a quarter of the world's mammals face extinction within 30 years."

"Land degradation from deforestation, waste disposal and overuse of fertilizers has rendered a third of the earth's soil unfit for growing food."

"One in five people in a soup kitchen line in the U.S. is a child. Recent research indicates that even mild undernutrition experienced by young children during critical periods of growth may lead to reductions in physical growth and affect brain development."

"Half of the 15-year-olds living in South Africa and Zimbabwe today will eventually die of AIDS."

"Almost half the world's people now live in cities, with more than 1 billion people living in slums and squatter communities. By 2010, 21 of the world's cities will have populations of 10 million or more. By 2030, the world's urban population will rival the total population just a few years ago."

"If the global growth rate of energy use continues unchecked, the rate of worldwide energy consumption will double by 2035 and triple by 2055."

"World population exceeded 6.1 billion individuals in 2001, and is growing at about 1.3 percent annually. Over sixty percent of the world’s population lives in Asia, 13 percent live in Africa and 12 percent live in Europe; the remaining 14 percent live in the Americas and Oceania."

"If the Earth were a few feet in diameter, floating a few feet above a field somewhere, people would come form everywhere to marvel at it. People would walk around it marvelling at its big pool of water, its little pools and the water flowing between. People would marvel at the bumps on it and the holes in it, They would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas. The people would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the ball and at the creatures in the water. The people would declare it as sacred because it was the only one, and they would protect it so that it would not be hurt. The ball would be the greatest wonder known, and people would come to pray to it, to be healed, to gain knowledge, to know beauty and to wonder how it could be. People would love it, and defend it with their lives because they would somehow know that their lives could be nothing without it. If the Earth were a few feet in diameter." -Joe Miller, If the Earth...Were a Few Feet in Diameter

radom facts, in 1990 we had an australian television show called beyond 2000, it said by 2001 most people would be traveling to work in a car that folded into a brief case.
So untill i see someone driving down the street in the brand new breif case car i will not worry about what is happening in 2050.
I Think we are to hyped up with all these scientific findings done by inderpented research groups that have been funded usually by an organisation which need the results of research and testing to sell more and different products

once a year also a new humanoid fossil, that redefines our thinking on human evolution, is discovered in order to secure funds for next year....oops i meant to say, in order to add to the progressive knowledgebase of science.

    Fair call Monkey

Funding, knowledge how do you get one without the other? It's nice to see that there is a definite turn to numbers as facts not truths.
