As if we didn't know this already, but Tom Ridge recently confirmed the Bush administration's wish to raise the terrorism threat level in anticipation of the 2004 election.

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/21/ridge.terror.level/index.html

And they are still doing it today with health care. Will the Republicans ever conduct themselves with honor and rationality?

Well no sane person would buy their lines unless they turn on the strong emotions to bypass little things like rational thought and fact. So in order to push their agenda, they need people to be fearful.

This has been pretty apparent to any honest observer of American politics. But it is good to hear it come directly out of the horse's mouth.

Look up the definition of solipsism.

Fear is fear, no matter the political ideology, PJ. Just because you're a liberal, doesn't mean that the fear of liberalism isn't real or fair.

There are real things to fear about liberalism that its going to turn the states pure socialist and control all your actions isn't one of them. The fears presented about the republicans are in the realm of possibilty the reverse not so much. I mean are liberals/ dems really trying to destroy christmas or are trying to turn kids atheist or gay? no are the republicans really going to weaken enviormental protections and try and end social security? yes

Typical lefty, nothing here but a false alarm. Why you are allowed to spit out such smear I have no idea? There have considerably better thread starters that have been locked or removed altogether, but this smear hasn't yet.

Ridge never said that the election was why the president sought to raise the terror alert level, he did wonder why the prez wanted to but didn't say what the article and you are intimating.

I can see a tape of Bin Laden would foster concerns, incidently the reason for the prez's concern, but I think the fact that it didn't actually happen; and, we haven't learned of it until now tends to discredit your assertion.

That's a matter of perspective. Fear is usually irrational.

No. But there are liberals out there who are trying to remove anything with "Christ" in it from public life. As someone who lean's towards atheism, I get annoyed as much as the next guy over the preaching, but that doesn't mean that right-wingers aren't truly afraid of this change. And things are changing, PJ. Slowly, but surely, this nation is shedding off much of it's original identity. It remains to be seen if this is all good.

You won't get an argument out of me on that issue. I want my rivers clean, and it seems that the Dems are the only choice when it comes to protecting the environment. But I shudder at a whole hell of a lot of the BS that comes out of the Democratic party as well.

No one plays the fear card better then the Republicans. That's what pisses me off about the Democrats they're to chicken shit to play dirty politics.

Nope! We should stomp the GOP out of politics permanently. They are nothing at this point but a criminal conspiracy if you ask me. After they've been stamped out, the Democratic Party could fission into several child parties that better represent America's current political landscape.

I never needed rational thought to catch on to Bush being a problem. I do notice rational thought managing to get people to think Carter, Clinton and now Obama are really any different. Thinking seems to move people away from the obvious as much as anything else.

No, that's not the way you deal with criminals. You deal with criminals by being more organized and better coordinated. What raised the Democratic Party to power was an incredibly organized ground army and a sense of unity in Congress. Pelosi is a field commander on a level with the Emanuel brothers, and she played a large role in this; a very dangerous woman, not necessarily lovable. Stay focused, and stay on-message. Do not look the enemy in the eye. He is not your friend, and he is not your buddy. Follow the plan. 2006 taught us this.
