Rice is the best food ever. Its delicious in any food, rich in nutrients, cheap, and can be grown and cultivated by a 6 year old. There are many different kinds of rice, including bastard immitation species and genetically spliced super-rice. We owe part of the worlds history to rice. Its a staple in Asia, and growing in popularity elsewhere. Rice feeds millions of people each day who can't afford anything better. Without it, they would die. Rice is the manna of our generation. Plain white rice is indeed bland-tasted (I'm in Asia, and you know Asians eat rice as regular meal), but once served after being cooked in a variety of ways, it can be delicious, trust me ^_^ My favourite among those is the so-called fried rice, and even that one name can mean a LOT of kinds of meals.
Let's see now, one cup of rice contains: 150 calories, 1g fat, 5mg sodium, 33g carbohydrate, 2g dietary fibre, 4g protein, 0 vitamin A, 0 vitamin C, 2%daily requirement calcium, 4%daily requirement iron. At that rate, I'd have to down 50 cups of rice a day just to grow fingernails. I'd throw up first! No thanks. I'll have the prime rib - rare - baked potato, green beans, Chef's Salad with Thousand Island dressing, and a vodka tonic with a twist of lime while I wait.
Potatoes are really good. They have almost everything you need to survive, thats why it became such a staple crop for the poor. (Who were then caught out by the blight.)
Potatoes are best eaten mashed with Worcestershire Sauce. Rice is best with anything spicy. However, I'm going to suggest another good staple - polenta. It goes well with just about anything.
rice is not supposed to be an all round food, it is generally accompanied by tofu, which i find much tastier, and more nutritious
Quick & Easy Creamed Rice Boil 2 cups of water, add 1 cup of rice, cook for 10 minutes then strain the rice. Add 1 can of "evaporated milk" and sugar to taste if it's not sweet enough. IMHO this is better than the canned stuff Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
