    Hi,
I recently came across an article on reincarnation by Dr.Ian Stevenson. The article read, Dr.Stevenson had spent half of his life researching on this concept and he even travelled all over the world and found cases of re-incarnation. Currently he has over 3000 of such well documented cases.

What do you think about re-incarnation? Is it possible? If it is fake, why would such a person spend almost half of his life doing research and documenting such evidences? If it is fake, are all 3000 cases fake?
What is your take on this issue?
Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts here!!!!

What does he mean by "documented". People told him they were re-incarnated? Or does he produce a scientific proof which can be tested. Personally reincarnation is not happening, but how do you you prove that? If I claim, that I am the reincarnation of Stalin, how can you (dis-)prove that?

He documented the cases, which he has personally seen and screened carefully, children from all over the world and then documented such cases. It seems that, his screening process was solely meant to remove any inconsistencies and fake associated with the case. This is what i've read and want to hear your thoughts on this...

Difficult to have an opnion on. I think it is BS, but without having read the article, it is impossible to assess his methods.

Again, how did he "see" the reincarnation?

Do you have a link to the article?

3000 out of how many claimed reincarnations? Hardly statistically significant.
    Unproven, unsupported by hard evidence.
Why does anyone spend their time doing something they are convinced is right?
Until the full evidence is published then who knows?
But one of the Google results said 30%-60% correlation (or something, I just skimmed). 100% deviation in results

Why would you say so? Even one genuine case out of the 3000 would re-define the definition and meaning of LIFE. Atleast, that's how i see it.

If it is unsupported, why would a university in Virginia fund his research? Why would he teach in a university in Virginia, if they feel this is totally fake and not producing any results?

I agree with your statement but don't you think that atleast one case would be close to genuine? I was just curious and my mind asks such questions. I will never say anything as fake, until, i found it as fake.

There are some profound cases that have been documented. People remembering past lives and researching them to find out it is true, even locating family members. There was even an individual that completed a mission from a supposed past life.

There was a case in India of a young girl who kept insisting to her family they were not her family. She recounted in detail how she had died, her name and what village she lived in. It was all true and the girl was born almost exactly around the time the other woman had died.

How do you "prove" reincarnation? The link I found gave little hard data on anything other than claims versus vague correlations.
I submit that you could think of your own way out woowoo doctrine and find a minimum of 3000 people who would support it with "evidence".

Because there's more than one loony running about with money? Look at the funding for ID, creationist museums, etc. etc.

Agreed, it would be "interesting" (to say the least) if it were found to be true. It would have a significant impact on all sorts of things (would murder hold the same stigma? "Yes I killed him your honour, but so what, he'll come back knowing not to be so stupid as to get in my way next time").
But what little information I found makes it hard to form an opinion.
    Fake until proven true...

People have some strange ideas about reincarnation. It certainly happens, since one life form leads to another over and over, but it doesn't happen the way some religious people think it happens. There is no soul to reincarnate, since the soul is a function of the brain, which upon death, breaks down into it's constituent molecules. The essence of our thought patterns is carried on sometimes in the culture. If you have become a true individual, which is what enlightenment means, then you no longer follow lockstep with the culture. For this reason, a true individual never gets reincarnated. The mind is an inherited pattern. In most cases, it is not your own.

Reincarnation is certainly true...the reason it's true is because consciousness exists independently of the brain...after death you entire into an entirely new universe or reality...

Nah I disagree with this...it's all wrong...if you think I'm wrong just highly concentrate (or meditate) on "true knowledge of reincarnation" and you will gain it...everything in itself is another reality...after death you enter into an entirely different reality...which can be hellish or heavenly...it's really not much different from a dream...since reality is really like a supra-dream (or highly concentrated dream)

You mean sit there thinking about things without finding any evidence except what you've dreamt up in your own mind?

I did. This is the truth as I see it. There is no other reality but this one. There is no life after death, no heavenly realm, and no Gods. Reincarnation isn't a supernatural phenomenon, but a natural implication of the fact that nothing is truly separate from anything else.

No, you obviously do not know anything about the art of meditation or concentration. Concentration is holding one feeling without any other interrupted thoughts.....now hold the feeling of "true knowledge of reincarnation" without any interrupted thoughts....

It's very difficult for most to concentrate...most people are constantly disturbed by many different thoughts...they do not control their senses, body, nor mind....

No you didn't, you're a liar...you probably just thought about it or speculated about it...it's very different from high concentration

This view you have that there is no life after death, gods, heavenly realm, etc...is all false...if there are infinite universes (which there are) there must be a heavenly realm or heavenly reality, there are God-like extraterrestials and therefore gods (or higher beings on other worlds) definitely exist also.....there is no such thing as anything supernatural...things appear magical and mystical because of a lack of knowledge or ignorance....

If there are infinite universes, then I must be right in at least one of them.

You exist in your own personal reality/universe/space-time....if you don't believe me just monitor all your bodily feelings, you will find that every experience, every event, everything that happens to you directly correlates to it...

He hasn't found cases of reincarnation. He has found cases of children claiming to have memories of deceased people. Reincarnation is a possible explanation. A significant difference.

It means that he found evidence that substantiated their claims. Birth records, housing records, diaries, historical documents, or with more recent incarnations living neighbors or family. Also knowledge that children or even adults now would be very unlikely to know or have a way of finding out. If he found enough of this kind of evidence pointing to the exisitence to the remembered person (generally NOT Napoleon, etc. as skeptics always assume it will be someone famous) and this information is very hard to get, he considers the case to have merit.

That is the strangest question I have ever heard. Why would someone set out to prove that something is true? Hmm.
