Scientooning is a new branch of Science that deals with effective science communication by using a novel class of science cartoons called Scientoons

Do you find science dull, dour and boring? Do words like ozone hole, glycobiology or mass spectrometry sound like mumbo-jumbo? Wait till you meet Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, Senior Scientist (Chemical Technology Division) at the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, India.

The forty- something globe - trotter, known as the "Scientoon man" in the CDRI campus and outside, has achieved quite a feast by fusing complex scientific theories with dollops of humor, a concept reported to be going down well with audiences, whether in Philadelphia or Bangkok, Shimla or Stockholm. His experiments began way back in 1988, says Srivastava, and were " triggered by the lukewarm response speakers receive at scientific seminars."

    No, No.

Actually I love cartoons with science as major issue being discussed, it keeps me entertained and focused.

Although if someone were to rap science facts...thatll be nice...

Umm...not really. I think power point presentations in dim conference room and some simple jokes on side of the presenter...do enough interest.

Most people if not all at scientific conferences are into science...like it was higher than their life worth.

As for kids who choose were to head to...rap and cartoons are the way to introduce them to science and get them interested.

    Ugh.
    That comic was horrible.
It wasn't even remotely based on science. It was all about... racism.
I thought we were trying to put a stop to all the racist nonsense?

Spurious has some good comics on his site. Here's a good one:

Ya I thought so too. The others on the site were much worse however.

Now that brings back fond memories.

For some reason our rats do not like their tail veins being prodded for blood *sigh*

I hated chemistry for the very reasons pictured above (god references aside that is). Many a time did I make stuff go boom when others in the class "correctly" made their test tubes go blue or green. 2 times the fire brigade was called.

After the second time I was made to work in the back room under the big extractor hoods and forced by the teacher to wear these huge goggles, thick rubber gloves and a gown and hair cap "just in case". Was one of the most embarrassing and personally tormenting periods of my high school life. I was advised at the end of the semester to never take the subject again and was advised (shoved and pushed more than anything) to look at history, political and legal studies.

    Thanks for the memories.

The angry face was a joke draqon.

Sadly the fact I was that bad in chemist was not a joke.

    Muaha!!

Off-topic? These are as scientific as the opening comic...

It's hardly under wraps. Hell, you even have it as your user title now... show off...

    Congrats.
Use it wisely. Don't abuse it.

    That's good.

    Another good one.

None of the others have it. You sure you're just not doing something wrong?

I had Registered User before that so I guess it just changed over when my status changed. I think the others had another title before that, not sure.

    Hmm.
That doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do to a moderator. Lock their user title...
I still suspect you're doing something wrong.

Edit: I've just gone through the list of old mods to see if I can remember any of them changing their user titles.
Goofy's title has changed several times. And so did WellCookedFetus's back when he was around.
Don't know what you're doing wrong. But you must be doing something wrong.

    Sam,

    Now you've got the idea.
I'm all out of comics, I'm afraid...

I could give a link to a Nietzsche/Family Circus site. It's hilarious. It randomly picks a Family Circus cartoon and links it to a random Nietzsche aphorism.
Something about the combination... is... something.
    But, not scientific.
