I think it should, however I also think the women should be regularly tested for sexual diseases. And they should have a nice clean place where you can have sex with them. And all prices should be regulated. I also believe there should be degree given to prostitutes and it should also be a subject you can study and learn sexual acts to please man and this should be funded by the government.

And before anyone says: "This your way of justifying your addiction?"

Its not about justifying, some people like having sex with prostitutes I'm thinking about other people. Doesn't necessarily mean I like having sex with prostitutes.

    Anyway...
I'm looking at it from a philanthropist point of view. Well the government could tax prostitutes to raise the funds for their activities. And why shouldn't prostitution be a career choice? It would create job opportunities for females. especially in 3rd world countries where prostituting is rampant and there is not much protection for the prostitutes of her clients. Prostitution happens anyway, why make criminals out of people? why not make everyone a criminal who has sex with a women he is not married to? why the double standards?

Some prostitutes enjoy being prostitutes. Legalizing it would be the best thing. Young girls will be prostitutes regardless. My mate had met a prostitute she was richer then him and she happened to enjoy what she did.

    I say make it legal:

My money (taxpayer money) is used for prostitution sting operations.

My money is used to convict prostitutes and their customers.

My money used to detox prostitutes becasue they get get paid in black market with heroin, crack, meth, etc.

My money is used to house prostitutes and their customers in jail.

I, for one, would rather have my money be spent on better things. Plus, if prostitution is regulated and tolerated, the black market would all but vanish by way of basic economics and as a result, there will be less stigmatization of prostitutes as "crack-whores".

thousands of dollars are being wasted throwing prostitutes and those who use them in jail and turning them into hardcore criminals..etc..etc.. Legalizing prostitution would eliminate the spread of diseases,as testing would be required, women wouldn't be taken advantage by "pimps," who abuse them and use thier money, and the clients woudn't have to worry about being thrown in jail. Most prostitutes are forced into the business because they can't make money in any other means, it's not like they "wanted" to be a prostitute cause thier a "skank" they just got "stuck" with the job, and recognizing them as a legal employee would benefit everyone. We should tax the rich businessman who use them. It's like abortion..if you make it illegal..abortion would still go on, it won't eliminate the problem...but more peopele would die from trying to abort in dangerous illegal ways.

People are going to do it regardless of being it being illegal. Actually trying to help them an setting up clinics and testing them giving them education on how to give good sex and giving them degrees would be much better then just making them into criminals.

    Your thoughts?

"Consenting adults must be free to do anything they want, so long as it causes no direct harm to others."

One of the fundamental principles of the libertarian philosophy and one of the planks of the Libertarian Party platform.

Well your considering the rights of the individual to be a prostitute. But what about the belief that its morally degrading to society? I'm not saying society is perfect already, but it may lower the standards of how young people percieve women. If it becomes something that's indoctrinated and normal the young ones of society are going to think its "cool" to take that career path. On career day teenage girls might actually be considering prostitution if it is made widespread. Making prostitution legal will take away the shame that it bears for young women.

You have a good point about the disease control measures though. They make strippers legal, so why not make prostitution legal if it saves prison space for real crimes? The thing about strippers is that they can be confined to a bar. But prostitutes go out in the streets so they can't be controlled as easy. The thing is that sex is still being considered sacred to some degree to the mainstream. Pornography and stripclubs are pretty much the limits of toleration by the mainstream. If you make prostitution legal you'll have nothing left to say sex is sacred. It'll become everyday jargon to talk about prostitution and even tv shows will be about women in prostitution. Seeing as how strippers and porn stars are "cleaner" career options for desperate women I say that prostitution should be restricted from the mainstream so that it doesn't lower our moral standards. I think that prostitution is the easy way out of a problem. I think women in a poor situation should try every option before jumping into prostitution. Pornstars and strippers is a more selective industry than prostitution. If its open to anyone and everyone then women might no longer think twice about jumping into that industry.

Are you aware how offensive that remark is, Muslim?

Your only excuse appears to be your age. That excuse will not last for ever.

    Very progressive of you Muslim.

    Let's go one step further.

Why not have men who want to be prostitutes too?

I'm sure there are talented men out there who would not mind gratifying the desires of bored wives, whose husbands are out with the female prostitutes.

After all men should not mind extending the freedom they have to the women.

    I'm all for it.

FR, I used to think I was a libertarian. What about the indirect harm caused by many human actions? Mostly off topic, since I think prostitution should be legal. And I still think libertarianism, in some modified form, might be a good thing.

O ye of misunderstanding my point.

Every hit on that search had the word "gay" in it too. Find me some accurate statistics on the relative numbers of women vs men who seek prostitutes for sexual satisfaction.

Of course, women are just beginning to get rid of evolutionary hang-ups which keep them from being financially independent, which restricts the amount of cash available for such delicious hobbies.

Prostitution serves a need in society and I think it should be legalized. If it were legalized, then it could be controlled: less girls would be coaxed into it against their own will and it could be checked and monitored, testing for STDs.

Prostitution lowers the rate of rape and would decrease the number of paedophiles on the street.

Please. Women comprise a tiny minority of those who solicit prostitution. Why would they? Any women who weighs less than two hundred pounds with no obvious deformities can get sex any time she wants it. All she has to do is say, "Yes"

Actually think on this for a moment. A woman who just wants to get laid has to screen guys. Ask all sorts of questions that more than likely a guy is gonna lie about anyway just so he gets some. Now a gigolo provides not just sex, but safety, secuirity, and some romance. The last being how gigolo get regular clients. Sure a female prostitute can just lay back and be acceptabe, but the gigolo has to be a Casanova or Don Juan. That were the female population would be interested.
