Many astrophysicists seem to think that we are going into a grand solar minimum. It seems that: Solar activity governs the volcanic activity on the Earth in long-term scale. Volcanic activity is usually higher in periods of prolonged minima of solar activity and vice versa. However, the mechanism of this forcing is not known. (following the maunder, we had the dalton during which, we had "the year without a summer") Your thoughts?
OK exchemist I'll respond in 4 parts 1) a complement 2) a metaphor 3 a request 4) a response to your request 1) I admire your knowledge base and usually respect your opinions. 2) (the metaphor) Let us proceed as though this thread were a banquet table. I have laid out the table and supplied a portion of the banquet from my ample larder. The larder is peculiar to my tastes(knowledge base and interests) and is by no means conclusive. so I expect that people who come to the banquet will bring something---a bottle of wine, a flagon of whiskey, fruit, vegetables. a meatloaf, etc...etc... ok So, you show up empty handed demanding to know what is in the haggis poor manners and bad form you could have(at least) brought a set of well tuned pipes -------if you can't feed the belly---feed the soul--- 3) Please bring something to the table 4) you might find these of interest? studies (e.g., paper 1) have shown a correlation between solar activity and volcanic activity here on Earth. Volcanic activity in the past has been compared to annual sunspot numbers and it has been found that there is a reduction during periods of prolonged maxima of solar activity and an increase in times of solar minimum. The exact relationship between solar activity and volcanic activity is still not clear and there are numerous theories. https://www.perspectaweather.com/bl...-minimum-and-an-increase-in-volcanic-activity and(see) http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/...3.000&db_key=AST&bits=4&res=100&filetype=.gif ...................................... ok all is correlation and speculation ergo (my common rquest) "Your thoughts?"
CME currently grazing earth 2 more CMEs just erupted a few hours ago 1 will graze left the other will graze right will be interesting to discover if it sets up any oscillating static stuff current hole in the sun is still dancing to its own party & the small sun spot which is turning into a large sun spot is keeping everyone guessing that is news update for last 10 hours new updates will be publicized probably in a few hours from now. is nasa doing something with this as a public web page ? would be nice extra 2 million per year budget for a nasa solar web site would seem like chump change if a solar flare knocked out a usa city grid for a few days(lost hundreds of millions of dollars & dozens if not hundreds dead)
OK here's another look at the connection between grand solar minima and increased volcanism "the range of Maunder minimum within year of 1615 to 1751 (136 years) which [is] known as the global cooling period. We found that the declining solar cycle significantly show more volcanic activities" from https://www.researchgate.net/public..._between_Solar_and_Global_Volcanic_Activities It seems more and more likely that solar activity and volcanic activity are inversely proportional. The question is WHY? can we find causality? what could be the mechanism? your thoughts?
A junk paper, from a predatory conference organised by WASET, which appears in Beall's List. You are scraping the barrel. So the conclusion seems to be that there is no reputable science claiming a link between volcanism and solar activity. So it's ballocks, apparently, much as I suspected.

This is not a NASA paper. It's just a NASA library service. This paper was one of many given at this conference: http://www.astro.sk/~choc/iscs/2nd_ann.html , 18 years ago. There seems to have been zero follow up since. All you are doing is scraping the internet for something, however flaky or obscure, to try to support the claim. But, face it, there's nothing of substance there.
