High ho! It's off to battle we go ...

    Xev

There is a difference between 'can't' and 'don't care to'.

Extra, extra nice with sugar and spice?

"Humans who, through the wonders of science and technolgy, now kill each
other by the millions without guilt or fear of retribution in an afterlife.
    "

In my world, humans kill humans for the hell of it, for the fun of it?
Who knows, certainly not I ... I haven't been psychoanalyzed.

And, I didn't say it was 'necessary' ... Please don't put words in my
mouth (or anything else, for that matter).

"Seemed implied ... " Gosh, you have a fertile imagination. Are you as
    fertile in other areas?

Athiests, until recently, have been too busy hiding to organize. But I
have no doubt that athiests, on an individual basis, have killed.

Because it detracted from worshiping the State. Hell, you answered
that yourself by semi-plagerizing Cris's earlier post.

No, he had them rounded up and slain ... along with gypsies, queers,
mentally defectives, etc. Aren't you lucky not to have been in the wrong
    place at the wrong time?

Nice? No doubt. By the way did they remove all the blood stains before
    returning your repaired cat-o'-nine-tails?

    Cris

You made me blush. Keep sucking up to me like that and I just may
adopt you ... Incontinence isn't that far off for an old geezer like me.

    Take care, all

Depends. You sound about old enough to make the question irrelevent....at least for you.

I will be nice. I am being nice. I am in my happy place. I am in my happy place. I am in my happy place.

Seems you have agreed with me on all my points, so, cheerie bye.

You can't have it both ways.

If you go around saying religon is bad and murdering the religes people then you ARE killing in the name of athisam.

If we are taling about motives then the catolic churches killings wern't about religon EITHER.

    one way or the other

No. You are killing in the name of athiesm if you say you are killing in the name of athiesm.

The NKVD/OGPU/Soviet 'Police' killed in the name of Marxism-Leninism or in the name of the Party and State.

They were at least partially about religion. Do you honestly think Giordano Bruno was killed for reasons of power?

The reasons behind persecutions are complex, and there is no one answer. But the fact remains that few people have been killed in the name of athiesm, and millions have been killed in the name of God.

    Xev ...

Interesting article. But I do feel that, besides being a pain-in-the-ass as
far as the church was concerned by his espousing of Copernicus' heliocentric
theory, he was a threat to the power of the church at a time when things
    were getting a bit shakey.

    Take care

"If you go around saying religon is bad and murdering the religes people then you ARE killing in the name of athisam."

Going around and killing people because they are a specific religion is not killing in the name of athieism.

To kill in the name of atheism you would have to say something like; "we are going to kill everyone who is religious because we want them all to believe in no god."

What? That's why you call me arrogant and other things...!!
You think that is ok for someone to kill in the name of ignorance, proudness and egocentrism??
    What a mess...

    Tyler,

Well... it depends on your intentions...

    You said:
Well, you actually almost do it... but you don't really kill, you just completly ignore... or attack...

It's like if you were saying:
"To attack in the name of atheism you would have to say something like; "we are going to attack everyone who is religious because we want them all to believe in no god."

    Love,
    Nelson

    Jan:
Which leads to the question: When have people been killed in the name of athiesm?

    Nelson:

So if I call Tony1 a stupid-head (neener neener), it's almost as bad as killing him?

In the US, and Canada, and in all democratic countries, there is somthing called 'freedom of speech'.

A: That's not happening. Just your swollen ego.
B: We have the right to say whatever* we want to. DEAL!. We don't have the right to kill.

    * (except cry 'theatre!' in a crowded fire)

What happened to separation of church and state? I think anyone accepting a public office should have to publicly renounce any and all ties to ANY religious organisations and doctrines.

But apart from that, this Ashcroft guy is friggin nuts. Calico cats are a sign of the devil? Prayer meetings in a government office? Covering "naughty" statues? How exactly did he get his job? Was it an answer to his prayers?
