Except, the US has never been an empire...one of those pesky facts again. There are only two possible threats to world peace, Mother Putin's nuclear arsenal and China. Your blind acceptance of Russian state media and denial of the international free press speaks loudly of your bias.

Fine, but why you support states who have supported Al Qaida, if not to say created and equipped them? Al Qaida has been paid by Saudi Arabia and the US during the war in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union.

Same with IS. It has appeared somehow in a territory of Iraq, a victim of direct US aggression, and Syria, also a victim of US aggression, which has, together with Saudi-Arabia and Qatar, paid a lot of money for fighters against Assad, money which have, in fact, reached Al Qaida (named "moderate forces" in US propaganda) and IS. The support of NATO-member Turkey for IS was a long time quite open. Now it is a little bit hidden, officially they fight IS, but de facto they are fighting against one of the main enemies of IS, the Kurds.

And the US is doing what it can do to prevent Russia to support the other main enemy of IS, Assad.

You say that like there was something sinister about supporting rebels fighting the USSR. They didn't become Al Quida until after the war.
No regime that mass murders it's own people has a right to sovereignty. That being said, these wars are problematic and the consequences are complex. I don't think the chaos is actually a bad thing strategically, although it's tragic for civilians. Assad will eventually be strung up like Mussolini, and ISIS as a terrorist group doesn't do itself any favors by gathering in a distinct area where they can be targeted.
Yes, because we hate them both. And Russia is no friend of ours. If you want to know why modern Russia hasn't changed much from soviet times, read this:
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...asnost-is-despised-in-russia/article22399254/

"Step by step, for more than a decade, Mr. Yakovlev has been slowly descending what he calls the "bloody staircase" of Soviet history. Now, he has reached the bottom and he wants Russians to see the horrors he found in the cellar.

Most, however, are averting their eyes. Russia has been gripped by mass amnesia, and few are interested in historical truth.

"Russians are sentimental," Mr. Yakovlev says. "When one person dies, we moan and cry. But when millions die, we regard this as normal politics."

Instead of memory, there is a hazy nostalgia. Monuments of Vladimir Lenin still dominate the central squares of almost every Russian city. Lenin's embalmed corpse is still on display in Red Square. Dozens of KGB veterans are back in high office, including the President, Vladimir Putin.

Many Russians celebrate the Soviet secret police on the annual anniversary of its founding. The Communist Party remains the biggest party in the nation.

In December, Mr. Putin revived the melody of the Soviet national anthem -- the same one that glorified Stalin and Lenin -- and made it the basis for the new Russian national anthem..."

No, it was the same Al Qaida, with the same bin Laden as their leader, and the same fundamentalist Wahabi ideology.
Except for the US, which has the right to mass murder whoever they like to kill. At least is what it actually looks like.
It is, at least, the actual US strategy almost everywhere. If we don't get it, nobody should get it.
Thanks for openly admitting that this is simply anti-Russian hate behind this. If you want to understand why Gorbatschow is hated in Russia, you should better look at what has happened with the living conditions of the people during the time until Putin has taken power.
Russians are much more interested in history than many other nations. So this is simply a lie. They do not like Yakowlews version of history, but this is another question.
Purely formal, this may be even true, simply because there are a lot of veterans who have never left it, but who cares enough about other parties to become a member. But in fact the communist party has no power.

You act like we knew what they were planning. And that's false.
So the current regime mass murdered it's own citizens? When did that happen? And by the way, killing in a war isn't murder.
That's just a statement of propaganda.
So thanks for openly admitting that Russians are so weak willed they need a former KGB officer to tell them what to do. The same guy that was sending them off to prisons.
It's just history. They don't give two shits about rights, they just want to be ruled by a strong man. They have been conditioned to be the followers of tyrants. And Putin is a tyrant.

Then why is Russia facilitating Islamists to go fight against Assad? A cynical person might think all they want is for Europe and the USA to suffer and for the war to go on longer.

That probably is more attributable to Russian nationalism than anything else.

It isn't. I don't know why you have such fantasies. Russia is fighting Islamists everywhere where it can get them.

‘Novaya Gazeta’ Says, LO, forget it. But so what, if you believe them, believe their explanations too - it is, of course, much better for Russia if these guys to to Syria and get killed there, instead of starting terrorism in Russia. Moreover, Russia is no longer a big prison as in Soviet time, so anybody has the right to leave Russia.

Americans are, as usual too stupid in such questions. But, so what, they have got what they deserved. They have essentially created Al Qaida, and have received what those who have created Al Qaida deserve.
No, they have mass murdered a lot of people in Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, some with their own troops, some with drones, many others by their puppet regimes. They will kill their own population too, I don't think you will have to wait for this a long time.
Sorry, but they have hated and despised Gorbachew and Yeltsin already before Putin has become president. No need to tell them, the facts of life were obvious enough and sufficient to hate them.
Sorry, but they just don't like to be exploited by the Americans. And Putin is a tyrant only in American propaganda. Which is a natural consequence of the fact that he is not an US puppet. Feel free to believe american propaganda lies, your choice.

You could just as easily say the Soviet Union created Al Quida by invading Afghanistan. And Russia will get what it deserves if they think they can export their Jihadist problem. These people will come back trained and battle-hardened.
I notice you give no context for these actions. Does that matter to you at all? Or are you a pacifist?
    He's anti-gay, anti-free speech, and anti-Democracy. And that's only within Russia.

What's the point of an oligarchy if you can't get rich?

For how long...? Russian's are leaving Mother Russia in droves. Almost 70% of Russians work for the Russian state. That's reminiscent of the Soviet Era.

"Adding to a laundry list of strategic and demographic problems for the Russian Federation, Reuters reports, based on official government statistics, that Russia is experiencing a serious case of emigration and brain drain. According to the report, five times as many Russians are emigrating now, during Vladimir Putin’s third term, than in the early 2000s. The demographic issue is also compounding Russia’s severe capital flight problem, which has grown worse since Russia’s international isolation over its actions in Ukraine, including annexing the Crimean peninsula earlier this year. According to Reuters, most Russian emigrants are leaving the country for a handful of reasons: “Most just want a better life, with some seeking more political freedom than under President Vladimir Putin and others keen to escape an economy that has been hit by Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis and is on the verge of recession.” http://thediplomat.com/2014/07/russian-emigration-spikes-in-2013-2014/

No, the Soviet Union have not created Al Qaida by invading Afghanistan. Because the US has started all this dshihadist movement before they came. There was already some communist movement at power there, and a quite inadequate one. And the second claim you can believe, once you believe the source you have cited. I don't believe them.
The context have been lies, lies, and more lies, to give evidence for this would start an endless new thread, given that I would have to prove these lies to believers, something which is close to impossible. And, anyway, we are already off topic.
Gay sex is legal in Russia, there are newspapers of the opposition in Russia, and Russia is a democratic state.

That an opposition which wants to give Crimea to the fascist Ukraine has no chance in a free Russian election should be obvious. And the idea of allowing Americans to rule Russia is also not very popular, they have seen during the Yeltsin time what this gives to the people. So the fact that the pro-american opposition does not have nor influental big media nor strong support in elections is not evidence that elections are manipulated or so.

Of course, Putin is not in need of social help. But the fake that he is one of the richest men of the world is cheap propaganda.

I'm not going to quote you.

Putin's wealth is propaganda in itself. Why does he have so much?

Except that isn't true, there are multiple sources which speak to Putin's I'll gotten wealthy, including the British government. And Putin's enormous personal wealth isn't limited to ownership in just one company.

You should ask yourself why it is you need to discount and ignore so much in order to believe Russian state controlled media and Putin's Western agents.

When you look at Putin's self reported income it doesn't support his well known lifestyle and you don't have to be a genius to figure that out. Putin's known lifestyle isn't consistent with his reported earnings.

I don't need it. I couldn't care less about Putin's wealth. For our world, he is, last but not least, worth much more than some 200 billion. Kill him, and replace him with some average guy, which would probably, in the actual Russian situation, a very anti-american guy, would increase the probability of all this ending in a nuclear war at least by 2%. How much is this worth?

Simply these stories about Putin collecting his money in Swiss bank accounts are so funny. It is simply part of the informational trash in the internet and the yellow press.

Hm, thinking again about this, it may be you have a point. I need this for my reputation. If I would present myself as believing such informational trash this would endanger my reputation as being a reasonable person.[/QUOTE]
