This is why CV19 is spreading, and we are not progressing towards flattening the curve. Please boycott these stores by not shopping there, going forward. I'm saddened by the callousness of some of these CEO's. A hobby store is not ''essential,'' and this CEO claims his wife had a dream about God, that prompted the decision to keep stores open, and not offer paid sick leave to hourly employees.

Yea, God told him to shit on his employees. Right. (This guy is a billionaire)

    Can't make this stuff up.

*Note, snopes rates this news as true/false, as HL is apparently abiding to keep stores closed in some areas.

    "Who" works for me....

Is there no advanced editing on this site to change subject lines?

There was another letter they sent to their store managers a few weeks ago asking them to do whatever they could to keep people working because stores were running out of employees.

I can just see it now. "Well, are you feeling REALLY sick? Because we're really shorthanded. Don't worry, someone will give you a mask."

Ugh, this CEO and his wife are SICK. There are awesome companies out there doing the right things, but there are some like this one, that are deplorable.

As if the employees should care about his crazy wife’s dream about God. “Oh, okay we’ll risk our lives to keep your store open because God told you to tell us this.”

I hope they go out of business. They’re evil.

Isn't that the same chain refused health insurance to women, because they might use it for family planning?
    And some other bad shit!

I quit shopping there when they refused to include birth control in their employee's health insurance. Claimed paying for birth control violated their religion. I didn't know a company could have a religion.

Come on now people. We can have our own subjective views of the world but there is some merit in following the absolute values of God, right?

I don’t think these folks are good representatives of what they claim they believe. These people are motivated by greed not God, imo.

God is a slippery slope, wouldn't you agree? He isn't subjective like we are but we interpret his absolute truths so they become subjective and therefore no better than what we started with.

I think the problem is we look at deplorable humans who claim to follow Jesus’ teachings (but they don’t), and think that God must be approving of this? You’re a smart guy yet you tend to do that a lot, I’ve noticed.

Jesus seemed like he would have been a socialist, if he had to lean on an economic position. Yet all these super wealthy bigots can’t help but tout how they’re Christian - Jesus had nothing to do with wealth and he spoke of how we should help “the least of these” ...meaning those less fortunate. I guess what I’m trying to say is I think many non-believers look at the worst of Christians and believe that is what Jesus is about. I don’t look at the worst of men and think all men are terrible, for example. I believe people who behave horribly and claim to follow Jesus, either don’t know what he taught at all or simply just use it as a status label in their social circles.

"God" is a blackboard that we can paint any colour we want ,and any colour that seems convenient.

He is like a psychiatrist on whom we can project any passing ideas we may have, it seems to me.

To his credit ,he is quarantined from the effects of this ongoing justification.(talk to the hand 'cos he ain't listening)

Seems like some bozos in Florida are itching to have an outdoor gathering which is more than likely going to add to the toll taken by the virus.

I look at a crowd and think that most are "good" people, a few are psychopaths, a few are trouble-makers and many just aren't informed.

A crowd is still a "scary" thing though in troubled times. A crowd following God is no less scary. It's just another level of motivation that would probably be best removed.

For example. You are a good person, right? You are a good person when you believe in God and you were a good person when you didn't believe in God. God isn't needed in this equation.

I wasn’t at peace though - I honestly believe faith has helped me find a sense of peace that I didn’t have, and in that...I can be a “better” person. (for others, etc)

But I get what you’re saying. All I’d like to see is that people don’t look at the worst of believers and believe that God is the reason they behave as they are. People use and misuse religion for their nefarious agendas, all the time.

How can we have "God is the reason" when he is just an artefact of our imagination?

What part of "God is dead" did you not understand?

I understand but my impression of your religion is that it is a philosophy such as "What would Jesus do?". It could just as easily be "What would Tom Sawyer do?" It has no bearing that Tom Sawyer is fictional. That's even a positive. People aren't perfect but Tom Sawyer is because he is a fictional character that we might want to live up to (or Mr. Rodgers or whoever).

God being real, absolute, those are the reasons that bad can be done in the name of religion. If your religion was really just "I'm trying to be a good person" there would be no downside.

Everyone is (most of the time) trying to be a good person. No need to make up a God and then tell ourselves what he would and wouldn't do and who he would punish and how he would do that or that I didn't make that up...that's what God said to do.

Buddhism, minimalism, think globally and act locally, love, those can all bring inner peace without the baggage. That's not to say that whatever works for you is a bad thing. I get that of course.

Yea, I hear ya - my belief is that Jesus died for all, sacrificing his life for our transgressions. So, it could be mere philosophy but it’s a bit more for me. Not everyone will believe, but that’s where my beliefs are now. It’s been a journey.

Sooo, Amazon is selling masks but I don’t really think it’s wise to purchase them since many hospitals and medical facilities are having to buy their supplies to protect their workers, from the private market. But people are starting to wear masks ‘round here, now.

I'm not seeing many people wearing masks but I think it's a bit much to expect people who want masks to not buy them on sites that are for the public.

If there is a problem, they should just be taken off Amazon.
