...and I am only too happy to "engage", as you will find are many of the others in this small, merry band, but how is insulting us "engaging"?

If you truly wish to engage, please, by all means, offer up a topic. Would you care to discuss guns, the LGBT community, race relations, the economy, religion, homeland security, Russia, "collusion"?

If you do indeed wish to converse, rather than simply condemn, you'll find that "Left", "BC", "Malcolm", "JT" et al, are happy to participate. We each have our own preconceptions, like anyone else, but we're willing to discuss and debate rationally and respectfully, and we only ever ask the same in return. If we can all do that, the "neighborhood" might not remain so "tiny".

Our desire was not to infect your forum with trolls and spammers. Our intention was to find a location that we could debate, have conversations, express our opinions, read and reflect on others opinions. I can understand the optics of us appearing at once and using a thread to familiarize ourselves with this forum. Members of this forum have joined in on our conversations (not CNN refugees). Our 'group" has not been disrespectful or distributive. A troll found us and created some chaos. I have reviewed the Banned Users section. The issue with trolls did not start and will not end with us.

I would love to have some actual conversations with you spidergoat. Pick a topic, I will converse. Cheers.

Mod Hat — (insert title here)

I would like to believe that.

Think of it this way: Even without reports flooding in, we were going to notice the posting issue. Thus:

    To reiterate:

    • In the question of hoping to "discourse in peace↗", there is a difference 'twixt trying to figure it out and just doing whatever you do. Like open threads. So, yeah, for the record, those don't fly around here. For our purposes in the moment, though, there is a bit about trying to figure it out, and then there is plantationing.

So one of the first things you can do to not be difficult is to not just skip out and ask for what has already been said.

Another thing anyone can do to not be difficult is find a way to fail behave like every other arbitrary challenger that walks through the door.

Yet another is drop certain aspects of the group identity:

That matters more to you than circumstance; still, it was about multiple members of this little group, including reporting each other, and in some cases complaining about other people. So, to the one, you're doing yet another two-bit demanding routine; to the other, if you don't like how the group identity dynamic is affecting the way you as an individual are regarded, then step away from it.

By the way, what post have you written in your time here that is longer than your six hundred eighty-three characters of inquiry? No, really, I'm just curious. This identifying group of "CNN refugees"—(if you say so)—that ostensibly came here on the advice of someone apparently looking for a fight actually posts pretty quickly. Clearly, you can think of a post you've written here that is longer that #79↑, if such a post exists, faster than I can find it.

We've been around a while; we've been through this sort of thing before. So, right now, all you really need to do is write something more than unsubstantiated tweet-grade uselessness.

In the end, people aren't going to wait around for the group members to disown each other. To the other, neither should you have to. Still, amid all the other group-ish intraidentification was indeed an appearance of protectionist, exclusionist belligerence, and, no, people aren't going to wait around for people to explain it after the fact. (And no, the obvious outlier was not the issue in that point.)

The best thing to do is leave the refugee group identity debacle behind.

Check out my posts on the gun forum. I am sorry we offended you in some way. That was not our intention. A suggestion for interacting with new users, please just use plain language and explain what we did wrong, how we can avoid it and don't lump all of us with a couple of bad apples. I really didn't want this to be a confrontational site. But if you are going to take issue on people commenting on a thread, on topic, because you don't like the length of our replies - I really don't know what to say.

By the way, I have been polite and listening (reading) the other forums and the other users. Seems you are the only one here that decides every comment should be a personal thesis on even the most mundane point. MOST people here don't appear to see themselves in such high regard and usually make their point or ask their questions in a sentence or two.
So please quit being so hypocritical calling someone a liar in public when you are guilty of lying to us yourself.
We were invited here with good intention and our own intentions were honorable. We had the grace to "talk amongst ourselves" to discover the lay of the land, the protocols and the "aire" of the place before we started trundling and pouncing around... even while our little private huddle got trolled, spammed, insulted and interrupted while we were trying to play nice and be ladies and gentlemen.
I guess the grace we tried to exhibit is over your head or at least your upbringing. It's kind of a shame really.... you are missing so much of life in your bubble.

My extremely liberal friend joined the infantry, got sent to Iraq and carried a .50 cal. Passed basic training with broken ribs and didn't tell anyone because he didn't want to do it again. All while being a vegan. You don't know shit.

Well your group made you incredibly easy to find.

You know, when linking where you all plan to post next, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to click on a link and see where you all are. It certainly makes it easier when you advertise who you are and where you are from as you all have been.

    ------------------------------------------------

    Yes, it shows:

    I'll give you some advice.

This is a discussion forum. We discuss a wide range of subjects, from science, religion, politics, history, business, philosophy, ethics and law and even UFO's. We do focus more on the scientific aspect, meaning that we expect members to post in good faith and actually put some effort in what they are posting. In other words, it's a discussion forum, not a chat platform like twitter or the comments section on sites like youtube or news sites.

Now, consider how you have posted during your time on this site. Certainly, you might consider the "lolz" types of posts to be fine fare in regards to your online footprint and if you do, that's great if that works for you. But this isn't exactly how we do things here.

You say you have been reading this forum and 'listening' to other users. It is a shame that how everyone posts here has not, well, sunk in.

And if you were doing that, it wouldn't be an issue.

Your introduction to this forum was a thread that ran for over 3o pages, where you complained about another forum, discussed how you were attempting to encourage posters on that site to join this website and it basically became a 'oh, I'm such and such' and 'which one are you' from the other place. For over 30 pages. Unfortunately time meant that I could not interrupt you all and remind you we have a PM function that allows you to have these types of conversations in private. But really, if you had read what and how people posted here, it should have been clear enough.

It certainly does not pay to then start abusing staff when said staff pulls you all up and reminds you that what we have been noticing here is not acceptable. For example, the influx of reports you all seem to be filing against each other, this group mentality of CNN refugees.. I mean, seriously, what the hell?

There's an adage, 'when in Rome'.. Understand what I am saying here? You're in a new place. Learn to adapt. Learn to grow. Most importantly, learn to not go out of your way to make an ass of yourself in abusing staff who are trying to inform you of how things go around here. Make some time to read the site's rules. Understand that yes, staff do have the power and ability to shut down discussions, to issue infractions, to stop people from posting and we make those decisions. Since you are all new, except for one who should have known better, you received a lot of leeway. But that leeway ends now. Tiassa has been kind and patient in explaining things to you and others who just joined. I am not that way inclined. Especially after wading through nearly a dozen reports that amount to simply complaining about other people for whatever reason.

He hasn't lied to you. I mean, your claims that you have been "polite" is a lie, when one considers your previous posts in this very thread. You weren't being "polite".

Okay.. Lesson one. This is a discussion forum. Having a private conversation out in the open, in a public thread, open to all and sundry who are members here, is not 'talking amongst yourselves'. Secondly, it's a forum, with rules, it doesn't take much to figure out the 'lay of the land'. Your public huddle wasn't trolled or spammed, if it was, it was because you guys and girls openly advised how you linked where you were all posting now. It's like posting a sign on your front door with "everything inside is free" and then whining that someone 'stole your TV'.

If you wanted to have a private huddle or discussion, it would behoove you to not conduct said conversation out in the open in an open forum and then complaining when others interrupt your discussion.

    About that..

    Ya.. "grace"...

If you want to know how this place operates, then here is a link to this site's rules. Please acquaint yourselves with it. http://www.sciforums.com/threads/sciforums-site-rules.142880/

That is legitimate and I apologize for it. It was an attempt to let some of the users that we like and respect to know where we were going. We couldn’t think of a different way to let people know where we were going without having to compromise our personal information. And considering, I’d say more than half of our group attempted to conform to your rules. We did not invade other threads and attempt distrupt things as we have been accused of. Some of us ventured out and engaged with other users on other threads, in a legitimate manner. But we did not show up on an existing thread and attempt to create unrest. And some existing users interacted with us - spidergoat, hoebaily or something like that. Sorry for the essay but I really think some of you came down way to hard on us. Some came across as rather belittling and insulting. And some people respond in kind. I think this whole situation is unfortunate. Now I’ve figured out how to turn off alerts and will go back to drinking bevies with my honey. Cheers you to,.

We forced your poor users to come to our thread by just existing. We are truly sorry. Maybe they should learn to be a little more adult and show some restraint. I can help with that. If you can afford my services.
