The successful among us bargain with the future, trading immediate gratification for later benefit.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

So do the failures. So does anyone with a job.

This is one of the ways that human beings display what we call intelligence.

The most stupid human beings are notoriously unable to make such trade-offs.

But at the same time we also trade our youth in the endeavor.

    Can't recall trading my youth

At 76 I wouldn't mind some back after a hour gardening

    Trouble is nothing to trade

Still in 8 days girlfriend in Bali will provide me with the mirage of being young

You didn't spend much of it at work?

Arrrr well I guess I spent some time in some activities, for which others gave me $'s as compensation

Much of work was not to onerous. Much was spent in various classes learning

Two of the hardest times I ever had were 8 hours looking after one patient - prem baby. The mother had been a patient years before and had been a bridesmaid at my second wedding. Saw mother some months ago and while baby still alive is being looked after by her second child

And a 3 hours resuscitation, unsuccessful, waiting for the rescue helicopter

    Theme's the break's

Alzheimer care givers are usually rotated every 90 days. It is the most emotionally difficult job in the world.

Being stuck in time is like being in hell.

I worked in a rest home as a teenager...laundry. I couldn't hang with the job because the environment was too gloomy.
