We know that the engines of air plane need to produce Thrust to the back, so that the plane can have momentum to the front and fly. But superman does not have engine, he is not possible to fly, not in atmosphere, needless to say in outer space without air. So, for a superman to fly, it is totally imaginary.
Wait, so you are saying a comic book character couldn't really do something he is shown doing in a comic book* What an amazing revelation! Next you'll be telling us that the different forms of Kryptonite aren't real! * Superman's ability to fly actually evolved over time. Originally it just consisted of him making huge jumps or "bounds", ( As in "clearing a tall building in a single bound")
Originally, Superman didn't have the ability to fly, and lacked some other accessory abilities. Siegal and Shuster explained in Action Comics#1 (3rd page) that his Herculean strength was the result of his having come "from a planet whose inhabitants' physical structure was millions of years advanced of our own". Ironically, that answer was more reasonable than the later, ludicrous claim of yellow sunlight. "Advanced physical structure" was general enough that it could have received a future clarification of being of technological origin. Unlike "The Six Million Dollar Man", however, Superman's whole body would have to be synthetic or even replicating micro-machine based. Steve Austin's bionic arm was attached to fragile bone and tissues. (IOW, tacit magic or pseudoscience was needed in that show as is the case with most comic book & TV/movie heroes endowed with superpowers.)
Well, if this thread is stupid... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! There's a lot things Superman can do.
Can we just not have faith that Superman can fly. Perhaps first we should define Superman to make him real and give folk something to reject and prove that he does not exist. Alex
You have a point..... I mean if Somewhere over the rainbow, blue birds fly Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can't I? If happy little blue birds fly beyond the rainbow Why, oh why can't I?
Superman controls levitation Superman draws in air , from our general sea level , into himself , and keeps it . And/or takes the atoms in space , needed to make O2 . Whithout thinking . Totally imaginary , for now .

From memory when we had the Superman [George Reeves]20 minute serials on at the Saturday arvo movies in the fifties, I believe it was in relation to his home Planet Krypton having super strong gravity, and that the much weaker gravity on Earth, gave him that ability to overcome it and fly.
