Circa 5 decades ago, there was men's store in Philadelphia (Scott & Hunsinger) which specialized in Tartan Plaid clothing & materials.

They were never a common item, but now seem to be non-existent in the USA: I have not seen a Tartan Plaid jacket for at least 30-40 years.

When I recently wanted to purchase two Tartan jackets, I had to contact a shop in the UK.

Which was distinct from the cryogenic wizardry of Scott Hunsinger's facility in another state, where it's the men they store. Hopefully even "re-storing" a few men wearing tartan plaid jackets someday. [Nah, you're right. That fad is so over that not even...]

Is there an annual Renaissance Faire in your state, within reasonable driving distance? Lots of period clothing is sold at these events, if only because people want to wear them at the fair. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find what you want there.

My wife wears a bodice, I wear a lace-up jerkin, and we both have feathered privateer hats.
