The christian Bible...

Perhaps it is Satan at work, but I find myself despairing at continuing this thread. No one seems to want to talk about the given topic, which I have tried to keep small enough to easily consider. I'm even allowing it to be taken out of context, one chapter at a time. Ah well. Enough poor me. Chapter 11 here we come!

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.


27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.


28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.


29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.


30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.


31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.


32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

This one's got some cool stuff in it.

This one is kind of wild. The BIG implication is that God is not a big fan of cities. One language, scattered them... that's a bit wild to me. Like everyone woke up one morning with that disorder that makes you talk in a new accent.

Weird thought-Maybe everyone spoke modern english until this time...

Was Ur sumerian or babylonian at this time? I know the chaldeans were babylonians, but it says chaldees, like it's someone similar but different.

No, Q. YOU seem to not understand. The point of this thread is to discuss the Bible, one chapter at a time. Literal or wholly inaccurate, I don't care. I only ask that you give thought to the text of the given chapter. I generally save my frivolity for outside of the religion subforum. I've done exactly what you've prescribed, Ham. The fact that you don't agree with the bible and that it demonstrates your god as vile and despicable is yours to accept or refute. You haven't refuted it so I can only assume you accept it. And of course, your gods murderous rampages were hardly frivolous.

I agree with the Bible and I believe it shows his Justice and Mercy, and the fact that His ways are not our ways. I disagree with the literal interpretation of the Bible.

Sorry, that doesn't fly. You contradict yourself. You must believe in the literal interpretation of the bible or you simply don't agree with it. You can't have your cake and eat it too, pal.

If we go by your logic, we can therefore interpret the bible however we want, therefore reducing it to a roll of ass wipe.

Genesis Chapter 12 is a short one.

1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:


2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:


3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.


4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.


5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.


6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.


7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.


8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.


13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.


14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.


15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.


16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.


17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.


18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?


19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.


20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

 

This chapter gives me a headache. Abram is a pussy. He has no faith that God would protect him.

M*W: Just a comment on #1. Most people believe Abraham came out of Mesopotamia (now Iraq). This is not true. Abraham was Egyptian, as was Sarai, and half-brother/sister of the same father but different mothers. They returned to their Egyptian homeland later on down the road. Scholarly info indicates that Sarah was impregnated by her father the pharaoh, ergo Isaac. (From Ahmed Osman's research). Recent studies indicate that Abraham (if he really existed) was the adoptive father of Isaac.

I know what the OT says, and doesn't say, and I don't want to argue the point. Read Osman's works, and we'll discuss.

M*W: They were the same guy. For some reason god changed his name from Abram to Abraham. Not a big difference, but just enough to confuse the rest of us. He changed Sarah's name, too. I don't see the point.
