It's not a case of needing it to be proven wrong - just shown to not be the most rational conclusion to the available evidence. And they condemn it after assessing it as not the most rational conclusion, and as such it becomes "a conspiracy theory" of the pejorative kind. Oh, I don't doubt that many use it to insult - but those who use it in and of itself as an argument against what is presented are being fallacious - and you should call them out on it - tell them to stick to the arguments presented. Please point to anyone here who has generalised in that manner with regard "all theories about conspiracies" - especially when you are of the mind that all secrets held by more than one person are effectively conspiracies. Call them out on it, then. At worst I would envisage that people have given the theory a cursory view upon which they have made their conclusion. But at no point have I seen anyone call it questionable simply because it is just such a theory. Please provide a single case of where someone has dismissed it out of hand for simply being called a "conspiracy theory" - where the person clearly hasn't considered the evidence? Of course conspiracies exist. Noone denies that. They are part and parcel of societal life. Noone has said that conspiracies don't exist, nor that theories about them are de facto wrong. Post #11 is simply an example of an essay into the psychological make-up of those who believe in not just conspiracy theories that MR would include within his definition, but who believe in the type that gave rise to the pejorative term. There is also no indication within that post that the poster is dismissing all and every theory involving conspiracy - they are merely posting a view from a psychological point of view. Let's look at publicly available figures: Snowden revealed that the US black budget for 2103 is "only" $52.6 billion. That's to cover ALL current black projects. Meanwhile... Last year they spent $851 billion on social security (or is that not a "government programme"?) Oh okay, how about $1.42 million per hour in foreign military assistance? That exceeds the entire black budget in just over 2 months. The F-35 alone is roughly $49 billion per year - and that doesn't include total operating costs. I.e. one single (white) programme costs 93% of the TOTAL budget for black programmes, so how can any single one of them - however many there are - be the "most funded"?
