This is just the first of many examples of QQ spending 11 years forming ideas about something of which he does not even have a basic understanding.

That's not meant as an insult. It's a highlight of the fact that no one who knows the slightest thing about optics thinks that the information is contained in the light itself.

A trivial example is a magnifying glass. Altering the angle at which the light rays enter the eye causes the illusion that the object is much closer than it really is.

A magnifying glass takes advantage of the fact that distance information is not in the light itself. Otherwise, we would not see the object any closer than it is in reality.

what a load of croc! I have never suggested such a thing. Your attempt to grandstand by promoting a lie is obvious.

the image you have posted states something new... that

"The eyes trace the light back in straight lines and see a virtual image that is magnified"

What on earth are they saying using the word "trace"?

Perhaps you should check what you post more thoroughly before posting.

maybe origin could have ago at it... ( chuckle) That is if he is not too confused of course....

The OP originator is not interested in the physical aspects of sensory abilities.

His contention is that the "mental image" created from seeing something is a "metaphysical experience", rather than a "physical sensory experience".

I think you and DaveC need to get together and have a chat about the term "metaphysical" in the context of the OP

Is pain a metaphysical or a physical experience? Is taste a metaphysical experience? Is smell a metaphysical experience. Is sight a metaphysical experience? Is a picture by an electronic
camera a metaphysical experience of the AI?

I already showed that sight is a mirror function of the brain. It is a cognition and translation of values expressed by an object on the bio-chemical mirror neural network, which utilizes bio-chemical mirror neurons, much like a camera translates light values by its electronic binary mirror neural network and re-translates the binary processed values (codes) back into an image.
The brain's mirror neural system is no different. It is a physical bio-chemical experience.

After my eye surgery the surgeon advised me that a remaining black part in the now sharp image, is due to a damaged optical neuron, which is unable to translate the incoming light values and thus can only represent it as a black image, obscuring part of the whole visual image, once it has been processed by the mirror neural system of the brain.

If I use your logic, I should still be able to meta-physically imagine the missing data. But that's not how it works.

Earlier I mentioned that the brain creates a holographic image, which you liked because a hologram is perceived as a meta-physical construct.
    Physical or meta-physical?

Sorry Michael, I took too long to edit the original post.
Please reread it and see if this alters your answers in any way.

Is there anything else you wish to post?

If I believed you to be mistaken with good reason would you wish me to offer a correction or not?
If the correction you offer is mistaken do you wish me to offer to correct your correction or not?

If that is your attempt to dismiss my post, you'll have to do better than acting like a troll.
Is there anything else YOU wish to post? If not, then my post stands unchallenged, warts and all.

p.s. I'd welcome anyone else to correct any mistakes I made. My mind is open to pertinent facts.

Your confusing my 3 neurone brain

    AND

In my first response to the above I was to brief

The first section I have not changed your words just spread the 5 questions out for clarity (mine)

    The sixth I missed and

    since a rearrangement of text

    needs other reply

I will try to correct the deficiency in my first reply

    Pain - taste - smell - sight

    Metaphysical NO * 4

    ....camera... definately NO

    Cameras do not experience

    ***

    Last one

    ....hologram...

    Again NOT metaphysical

Here is a small question (puzzle) to follow up

What are the units of pain?

Should be easy to find but if you need a hint let me know

    Sorry for the hassle.
As to your question, there seems to be several ways to measure levels of pain. One of them is called is a scale utilizing "dols", but that has been discarded in favor of other pain measuring methods and instruments. Pain measuring devices are called Dolorimeters, but others may have specific names such as Palpometer.

That was an observation re QQ's post #409
The last two paragraphs were added after he read my response to the original one liner in 409.

It's possible our posts may have crossed. I am also guilty of late edits, but never intentionally.
