    the secret to success?
getting off your ass and "going for it"
always remember one thing "big risks yield big rewards"
nobody ever got anywhere by saying "poor little me"

    Prove it.

People say that herbal remedies work. Most that have been studied show no better effects than placebo.

People say that prayer works. Again, studies show the same results as above.

If this really, really works, do a scientific study that confirms it. If you did that, imagine the extra millions (billions?) to be made from a scientifically confirmed version of this!

Know why these things are never confirmed to this level? Because they are known to be false by those ultimately pushing them and the fad fades to nothing. Not very profitable. No books. No movies.

Is there a difference? Unless I am mistake, the brain does not differentiate between what is "real, outside the body" and what you imagine. If I precive my life as happy, who are you to tell me it is not??

That doesnt mean you wont face challenges, only that you will find a way to overcome them without first bemoaning how terriable your life is.

Murphy's "law" is just a humorous reference to the scientific fact of entropy. Closed systems wind down, never up. The opposite just dosen't happen.

a101, that poem was written by a thoroughly un-poetic person, but I like the sentiments behind it - even if it is all fluff. The 'magic' of positive thinking is like the 'magic' of prayer or the 'magic' when a street light goes out when one passes by, namely:

One is much more likely to notice and remember certain relationships than others. If one is inclined to believe in any of the above, then positive outcomes which are incidental to the positive thinking or prayer (respectively) are more likely to be remembered - not the least way through telling others about 'that time when I prayed and it rained', &c.

People rarely go about telling others with equal frequency of the times they prayed for something that didn't happen, or prayed against something which did happen - and thus these scenarios (50% or more of the total?) are more quickly repressed and forgotten. Ditto for positive thinking. Ditto for the hundreds of streetlamps that neglected to darken when one passed by them. These 'exceptions' to our fantasies, which are in fact the vast majority of reality, are merely given a disdainful glance and left to wither in obscurity.

Yet despite all this, there are studies which show that religious people (regular church-goers) and optimists have longer lifespans on average. Correlation does not imply causation, but my hypothesis is that self-righteous people feel they have more for which to live, since they aren't depressed as often and don't unnconsciously sabatoge their own decisions as frequently in many thousands of mini-suicides.

Here is an iteresting thought. Herbal remedies cannot be patented by pharmaciticle companies, so the billions of money to be made are not there for the corperations. You cannot own a though process, or market it, again no billions of dollars. Who funds the research to prove (disprove) prayer and or herbal remidies. Who stands to gain the most or loose the most.

Money and fame are huge motivators. Look at who funded the research and how unbiased it really was befor you judge the results.

Oh please, its been proved in experiments that praying make a difference in the out come of event.

And there were experiments made where people claimed to influence on out come if chances like tossing etc. the results are inline with the Secret.

And rest assure if u dont believe it then the out come will be according to your belief. so if u set out to search on net with that intent then u will find all the wrong links.

Here is an idea. Notice that just because people are rich with $ does not make them happy. There are lots of wealthy increadably sad individuals around, and just because you are poor, does not make you depressed. There have been examples of very poor ($ wise) who seem incredably happy.
It is not the "stuff" you have, but your perspective that makes you happy or depressed. So why shouldn't your belief (perspective) impact the outcome. It has to.

    No... it doesn't.

If you doubt this simply take a trip to Las Vegas. Those power bills and glamorous hotels are being paid for by all the millions of people and the billions of dollars they spend thinking, wishing, hoping, and praying for wealth. They are paid by the laws of probability which, contrary to notions such as this, overrule our very human desire to have some control over chance events. This outcome is so certain that most games only give the house an advantage between 1 – 5%.

Blackjack, for example, if played correctly gives the house an edge of only .8%. If there were any reality to this “law of attraction”, if people could increase their odds by even a percent or two casinos would quickly go bankrupt. They aren’t.

As an atheist, I don't pray so I can't and won't really comment on that.

However I must admit dandelion leaf tea was wonderful in keeping the fluid retention during this pregnancy down. It had gotten to the point where at the end of the day, my feet actually hurt they were so swollen. The first thought was pre-eclampsia and after it was established that was not a risk at that point (had no other symptom), my doctor then recommended it, sent me to a naturapath trained in dealing with pregnant women and she too recommended it. I tried with thinking 'there's no way this nasty stuff is going to work'.

And it worked. I can now wear shoes again.

And I am 4 weeks off reaching my due date and my feet barely swell. And if it does, I just put it up for about half an hour and it goes down. If only I had used this remedy during my first pregnancy. It would have made my life during that pregnancy that little bit more pleasant.

Sorry, I'll shut up now. I am just very excited that I can now wear shoes again and my feet no longer swell to three times their size.

    Nonsense.

Yes, it is easy enough to be God, to arrange it all to suit, according one's own determined predilection, if willing to suffer the totally lonely boredom of the totally expected.

Pyschopaths carry on with that sort of taking advantage of people and get away with it all the time. Achievement of expectation helps to cope with insecurity.

Life is also about the curiosity of seeing what it is to be affected by allowing other people to freely determine for themselves, the discovery not so much of the secret, but rather of their secret.

Herbs work, but it is important when* you pick them and how you prepare them, and for what you apply them.
Basically they are just chemicals that those herbs consist of,
and chemicals, as we know that, affect our body and brain.

*Time of the year and day/night, soil, access to light, etc.
You can die from poisonous plant leaves if you pick them in July from a plant that grows on a dump soil,
but feel only mildly sick if you pick leaves from the same species in winter on a hillside.

I fully agree with that, besides an optimistic and happy life is healthy and is better for the nervous system. The reasons, even if it is pure imagination, don't matter.

I admit, it is true, and it's no secret.

I may disagree with the language used to express these ideas and concepts, but it does not change the fact that these ideas and concepts are accurate.

There is scientific language to explain it. There is new age language like above that can explain it. There is psychological and sociological language that explains it. It's a common mechanism, and it does not just exist in humans. Intent and will, with persistence and virtue, will lead to success.

You basically have to know what you want, in order to do that you have to knwo who you are, most people THINK they want money, but then find out the money is empty, there is no soul in the money. In order to do anything you have to be persistent, you have to keep trying and trying, and don't stop until you complete your mission, whatever it is. Some missions in life you'll never complete, like being a mother/father or a family man, these are life long missions that begin and never end. Then you have short term goals.

But in general, you have to think big, have big goals, and then you can try and accomplish them. It's not easy to get where you want to go, but if you map out all the steps and things you have to do to get there, you'll be able to get there. The key is being able to map out where you want to go, and being able to execute your plan. The execution part is what I'm not good at, but I know how to plan and strategize.

The secret to success should be a secret no more!
The secret of success is knowledge.
For if you would know everything, how could you possibly make any mistakes!
