Firstly, I had an intense and lengthy debate with an extremely argumentative and pig-headed individual (myself) about the right forum for this thread.

    So..

I dont know how it is in other countries, but I've recently got cable TV here in the UK and it presents me with two major issues.

One. There is so much choice that it becomes prohibitive on what you can watch, where you can go, what you can do, without missing your favourit tangs.

Two, and more importantly, the simpsons is shown soooo much that the theme tune has become a permenant resident in my memory. There is a feeling amongst me and mine that there is a danger of the Simpsons becoming a cult religion.

What I want from you people is your thoughts on this, (I know it's laughable), or other shows that you feel are doing the same kind of thing, worming their way into the realms of sociology (or even theology).

    "I call president!!"

for a while i was annoyed because it seemed like they had run out of matierl, but as of late the new episodes have rekindled my love for the show

my only issue with it, is that after years of watching i now have many of the episodes memorized.. line for line ... ive recited episodes for freinds when discussing some issue which somehow was involved in an episode

well that and the whole "worst episode ever" episode, which is the one where the fat comic book guy makes out with skinner's mom.. i still cringe at the mere thought of it..

    favorite quotes

"since the beginning of time man has yearned to destroy the sun"

"marge you know me, i like my beer cold, my tv loud, and my homosexuals flammmmming"

    "me fail english? that unpossible"

"my cats breath smells like cat food"

    "they taste like BURNING!"

    "drink up judah ben hur"
"you truly are the king of kings"
    "excellent"

"smithers there's a rocket in my pocket"

"must recreate pose from battlestar galatica, BEST DEATH EVER!!"

    Cable TV Guide:

Star Trek Voyager. The crew go in search of precious tellarium.
    Mmmmmmmm..... Precious tellarium

Even the TV companies think there's a little too much of it about!

Probably my favorite character in the show is either chief wiggum or his kid. Unforgettable lines like:

    "I bent my wookie."

Never get old-at least in a long time. Heh.

Anyway my media, politics, and power class [and I] had a talk about the Simpsons, and the teacher repeatedly stated that the whole show has a huge grounding in popular culture and that everything, everything was grounded in what was happening in the media. So not only are you laughing so hard that you fart a hole through your recliner, you're also obsorbing indirect media information.

I think I'm done ranting for now.

My fave episode is the one where Lisa is born.
    Homer- "I got your nose"
    Bart- "I got your keys"
    *FLUSH*
    Bart- "bye bye keys"
    Homer- "D'OH!"

    Goin down to South Park...

The best show in the world, even including the creations of Mr. Roddenberry. Sorry but it's true.

Now let me see.. work for you, or have my penis cut off.

    Excellent.

Only for your generation. Occassionally some of us hear "Yabba, dabba, doo!" echoing from our distant past.
