I hold to the statement that a lot of metal is some of the most technical modern music. Especially bands with classical roots.

I agree, The Killers are good if you like 80's style music. Their whole CD except for maybe one or two songs are real good. And this is coming from someone who primarily listens to 60's and 70's rock.

Most christian music is pretty soul-less.

    Get it? Hahaha.

But really, most of it is.

I was so unimpressed with the Killers.

Bands that are popular tend to be bad. Since when do large groups of people have good taste?

I enjoy good blues, jazz and classic rock. I'm not much ionto the new hip hop or death metal but that's the people of todays right to listen to what they want to.

    draqon ......

I'm in a library so the download time is very long. Thank you though for posting those songs and I can only hope that others will be able to listen to them and enjoy them.

Being impressed is a totally different thing than getting something for that guys kids that won't make him feel physically ill.
Then again, what about rage against the machine? Nirvana? Jimi hendrix? Led zeppelin? The beatles? Outkast? Smashing Pumpkins? Johnny Cash? Ella Fitzgerald?
    Etc, etc., etc.

I think there are basically two ways for a band to be popular.

One is, to make music that the "masses" like, music that sells. Artists who are widely popular from their first album on tend to fall into this category.

The other way is "alternative becoming mainstream". Artists who start out small, with a small audience, usually a particular social group.

    Cole,

That's like what, 10 bands/individuals over a period of 50 years? Those are exceptions.

Per definition, not everyone can be famous. Only a small part of the population can be famous (at the same time).

There are far more terrible albums that go gold or platinum that good gold or platinum ones.

    This depends on sales.
And again, we need to keep in mind how a band/artist became popular (see previous post).

Take the top 35 of any generation for the past 5, and invariably 30 of the top 35 will suck. Just because lots of people buy it does not make it good. Nor does not exclude it from being good. While popularity of music may not be a perfect indicator of quality, it performs statistically well.
