Name 3 inventions that in your opinion will influence mankind the most in a next 100 years (or so).

    My pick:

1 - converting entropic into useful energy against 2'nd low of thermodynamics
2 - proliferation of artificial intelligence
3 - expanding human life span multifold

A way to stop the media from lying.

A way to stop the politician's from lying.

A way to prevent normal people from lying.

    Let me try:
-AI probability of success - 70%
    -doubling human life - 50%
    -violating 2'nd low - 10%
-stopping people from lying - 0%

    Violating second law - 0%. It's called a law for a reason

The AI probability of success seems way to high for me. For something that has nothing tangible on the horizon I don't see how you can expect 70%.

I think doubling human life may be higher than 50%

Haven't decided on the third one yet but the top two will be:

    1. World-wide deployment of nuclear fusion

    2. Discovering what to do with all that surplus oil

To put things into perspective, the top 3 over last 100 years:
    1 - internal combustion engine
    2 - antibiotics
    3 - microchip

    1. Memory transfer : instead of going on vacation you can have its memory transfered into your brain, same with concerts, sport events etc. (yes, you too can be a rockstar) Also certain memory erasure. I don't think they can stretch much human lifespan, according to current stats the next generation will live shorter than the current one. But a rich, old person could have his memories transfered to a young body and this way live longer (forever?) Also this would alter seriously schooling, since a person could be schooled in a few hours...

    2. Cold fusion and its practical usage.

    3. Finding a practical NEW energysource instead of oil or coal....

    4. Energy transfer without loss...

    2. A vain quest - it cannot happen.

    3. Obviously fusion is the answer to that one.

    4. Dream on - it's a physical impossibilty!

What's with all the urge to break the laws of thermodynamics?

I think this is fiction as well.

Yeah. That's the stuff dreams are made of - NOT technology.

(Never fear, though, it's just plain ignorace doing the talking on things like that.)

If you say so, it must be true... After all if you had told to a 19th century average person that 100 years from then people will fly over continents like an everyday thing, he would sure have thought you are crazy and that it can not happen...

Edit: I have just realized you were responding to #2. Still...

Now if you say cold fusion can not happen, and saying that that would be the answer to #3, then basicly you are saying humankind will not find any new alternate and practical energy source...

P.S.: Modern technology also made possible the alchemists dream, making gold from other elements. Except it is not economical, nevertheless, possible...

All the things you've just mentioned were NOT physically impossible - just that science and technology had not advanced far enough at the time to make them realities.

That's opposed to practical cold fusion. The energy levels involved make it an impossible dream of a viable energy source. Technology and physical science HAS advanced enough to recognize that impossibility. "Hot" fusion IS the obvious answer.

    1. The human genetic code is programmed for aging and death after a certain period of time. Scientists will figure out how to make cells rejuvenate themselves indefinitely, leading to a vastly extended life span.

    2. The discovery of methods for breaking down complex organic molecules into smaller components. This may have already been achieved to some extent by Frank Pringle using specific frequencies of powerful microwaves. See current issue of Popular Science.

    3. The discovery of methods to cancel out the effect of earth's gravitational field on large objects.

    4. The discovery of methods to transform heat into electricity efficiently without moving parts using solid state tech. Again, this may already be on the horizon with Eneco's new power chip:

Number 4 is nothing more than the next generation of thermocouple - a VERY old technology. Before I'd place much faith in their claims, I'd certainly like to see some figures on efficiency. The fact that they didn't even bother to show any on their site leads me to believe their claim is mostly just marketing hype and little else. Anyone that actually made a serious breakthrough in efficiency would be SHOUTING their numbers at you.

They did...you just didnt look for it. There is a graph of efficiency percentages for different power capacities on the 'key attributes' page.
