I was born in, and reside in the USA.
I have never thought about Tunisia until now. Google presents a travel link, indicating it's a nice place to visit.

    http://goafrica.about.com/od/tunisia/a/tunisiafacts.htm

And Wikipedia, perhaps not the best source of information, but contains diverse content.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunisia
Unless I have an out of body experience that takes me to Tunisia, I will never be able to think about your country beyond what I just read.
The only two Muslims I have known were American. I didn't hate either one for any reason; or mind that they call God, Allah.

I don't know what a "procedural democracy" is.

I've never read your newspapers, so I don't know if they are filled with propaganda or not. I wouldn't be able to read it unless it was printed in English, anyway.

Do those two links describe your country accurately?

Hope this helps satisfy your curiosity, but I doubt it.

There is difference between the mentality and culture of the city and the countryside.
Countryside religion can matter more than the city.
Sexual freedom is also seen otherwise.
    And more.
    Not just to you?

Yes, the countryside is less "hurry hurry honk honk beep beep", you can see the stars at night along with the crickets chirping. A basic significant difference, over time, on the state of the mentality.

we are just 11 millions in this country, the busy cities are tunis, sfax, and sousse and monastir and mahdia, if you want to consider busy or not, but sousse is busy at summer, it's a touristic center. other cities, if you want to consider them little busy ok, not busy ok, depends on where you used to live. 11 millions in 24 state, in a small countyr, imagine.

In the villages are more people faithful than in cities.
And religious stuff are most important to the country.
"Menage à trois" is accepted different in the city than in the country.
If these differences are not in Tunisia, it is difficult to explain.

I was in western Tunisia in 1987 as a part of a longer geology expedition across Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

I most enjoyed the history...especially Roman and Carthage influence.

The Mediterranean part was ok (sort of a European/ North African mix) but the southwest where we were working was to say politely 'less than hygenic'. I couldn't bring myself to eat for a day or so until we found a hotel in Tozeur that served a meal that consisted of more food than flies.
