If modern radars weren't highly reliable (if not always 100% perfect), then the military wouldn't rely on radar to locate and track enemy aircraft in life and death combat situations. They wouldn't rely on radar to guide missiles to intercept those aircraft.

The mere fact that the military places such reliance on radars is evidence that they find them to be highly reliable. They are literally trusting their lives to their radars.

It does not mean that they find them highly reliable; it simply means it's the best option they have.

And they always have a human to confirm and interpret, because radar cannot make judgements; its just a tool.

The human is there to say 'dont fire; thats just a radar shadow'.

Yes. That's precisely why I wrote earlier that the "UAP Preliminary Assessment" was a epochal document, despite its (intentional) vagueness and brevity.

Moving the needle away from the "skeptics" favored 'It's all just bullshit and people should be denounced as nuts and credulous idiots if they take any of it seriously' towards 'Something is happening and we don't know what it is', is a tremendous change in the rhetoric surrounding this thing in my opinion.

There's the Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena report, then there's MR's take, last two quotes below.

''UAP PROBABLY LACK A SINGLE EXPLANATION The UAP documented in this limited dataset demonstrate an array of aerial behaviors, reinforcing the possibility there are multiple types of UAP requiring different explanations. Our analysis of the data supports the construct that if and when individual UAP incidents are resolved they will fall into one of five potential explanatory categories:''

    Natural Atmospheric Phenomena:

I don't believe that some country like China or North Korea has abruptly leaped to "space-alien level technology". But we're definitely in an era where things have become sophisticated enough to produce oddball sightings whose origins don't consist of commonplace 1950s misinterpretations and explanations of what is seen or detected.

So essentially, it would be criminal-grade neglect for national defense agencies to still be indolently excusing themselves from deep examination of an _X_ on the grounds of appearing to cater to loony fringe communities if they do so.

While most "anomalous phenomena" will still be amenable to mundane causes, it was still high time to reduce or eliminate the "culture of intimidation" (i.e., "you must be a nut") incubated among personnel when it came to reporting. Especially when that reactive response was largely an invasive hermeneutical filter originating outside the military establishment -- from societal, academic, political and entertainment trends at large.

This part of the 21st-century may not wholly resemble the "The Jetsons" yet, but it's still that iconic period revered by 1900s science fiction; and the applicable protective forces better be responsibly alert for "things" stealthily prowling air, land, and sea space in a potentially malevolent manner (which even information gathering and vulnerability assessment of a target in terms of response to _X_ intrusion can be, in the long run).

Don't think any alive microbes have been found on Mars but if there are any at the wreckage site it will be the first change of diet they would have had for a few years

I don't either. Assuming that the UAPs, or at least some subset of them, are indeed aircraft (I don't want to jump to that conclusion, but it remains a viable possibility), I'd guess that they are American, either government or private industry R&D products. (Is that you, Elon?) Hence my UAV speculations earlier in the thread.

They have 80 cases that they say were detected with "multiple sensors". That suggests that there is something happening (or multiple somethings if these don't all have the same sort of explanation) that warrants further investigation.

And whatever conclusions we reach about what they are should come as the result of our investigations, not as an a-priori assumption adopted prior to commencing them.

Yet, you noticed him because you replied to jamesR's post. Then you replied again to another of his posts. So, that's makes 13 days now Yazata has been ignoring responding to james post.

This is a leaked video of the U.S. Navy showing a uap on FLIR video from a nearby stealth ship off the coast of San Diego. At one point the object, which is round in shape, plunges into the water. The youtube video goes on to discuss the history of such encounters, the reluctance of servicemen and women to come forward with such sightings, and recent Congressional interests in the phenomenon.

"According to Corbell, the footage was filmed on July 15, 2019, at approximately 11 p.m. PDT, from within the USS Omaha's Combat Information Center, near the coast of San Diego. Radar images of the UFO show a solid ball, measuring about 6 feet (2 meters) in diameter, flying at speeds of 46 to 158 mph (74 to 254 km/h). Its flight lasted over an hour, culminating with the sphere vanishing beneath the waves. No wreckage was found at the location where the object went down..."--- https://www.livescience.com/ufo-flies-and-dives-navy-footage.html
