Captain, that's the oldest, shittiest excuse for the failures of Marx's prophecies. A better reason is that they're wrong. Marx has a lot to recommend him ... he's very intelligent, an outstanding writer, and his theory does have a lot of value in explaining human history and society, but as a blueprint for the future, it is a fucking travesty.

According to Marx, it would be workers in the developed countries, specifically England, but Germany and the States to a lesser extent, who would rise. Instead, it was fanatics from the inteligentsia of the most backward country in Europe who ushered in the glorious age of scientific socialism.

Furthermore, Marx and Engels both heartily endorsed violent revolution.

Please explain what your babbling about. What is the oldest shittiest excuse that you say that Ive said?
Marx didnt invent communism, comunes existed before Marx and just because Marx thought violent revelution was cool doesnt mean that I should agree with that or the slaughter of 500 people because of political views - I see that as blatantly wrong.
I really dont see what your saying, I think youve mis-understood, I said the more I learn about the way "communism" has been practised the more I dislike it - although I would say there is a clear difference between communism and socialism (which I believe is what has been practiced in recent times).

    Im not a marxist.

"There are no "communist" countries, all socialist totalarian dictatorships, not communist countries. The USSR, China, DPRK, Cuba, etc are not what you would call communism, it has just been branded that way by the west."

That's what I'm talking about. When people argue that the atrocities of Communist states were simply a result of the wrong people being in power, when in fact, it's the theory itself.

But, since I seem to have largely misread you, my apologies.

Its not the theory. A theory is a piece of paper. Its the position of authority that allows people (physically and mentally) to commit atrocities. The Spanish CNT communists never massacred anyone (apart from the fascists, but thats what happens in a war) and they had the most complete functioning communist society yet practiced.

And i would choose Pancho Villa too.
