Wondering if anyone could suggest a web hosting company that are particulary good with competitive prices.

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks.

I can personally recommend http://www.34sp.com (budget prices (at least for smaller sites), reliability and very good support).
I am hosting several sites with them for more than 4 years now with hardly any problems.

If you want to check out my sites:

Hey, cool, thanks for the info, I was looking into moving my website somewhere closer to Europe, the UK would do just fine.

I host my site @ Fuitadnet.
It's good, no problems, support is reasonably quick.

edit: No, wont' do, too little space, I need about 2 GB atm and am thinking of upgrading in the near future.

Im looking for a review script to put on my webpage as well. Was wondering if anyone knows of any good ones. Some are really really expensive. Any ideas?

I don't have personally any experience with these, but if you have a look at http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Reviews_and_Ratings/ you'll find a large number of scripts including free ones (I would test these thouroughly first though because there are sometimes rubbish scripts published on hotscripts.com ).

I'm found a website software called Joomla which has its own review scripts. Dont know if this would be worth my while using? I could give it a go. It looks like it has what I'm looking for, that users can review an item and rate it on more than one aspect, then post a comment.

I looked at that hot scripts site and all the good ones cost a bomb and if they dont they arent what I am looking for. Some are really terrible as well.

I use Joomla myself and write music reviews, but haven't made it so that users can rate and comment my reviews.

I'm assuming though that it is possible to set it up so users can input reviews?

Yea, it is. Joomla is quite flexible for small to medium purposes, if you want something bigger, then check out XOOPS.

By the way, if your website runs under an international domain name (.com, .net, .org) but is primarily addressed at a local audience (as apparently your website http://piparmetra.net/ is) it would be better to host it locally (i.e. in your case in Latvia) as otherwise search engines do not associate it with your country (i.e. it does for instance not come up in searches at google.lv if somebody selects the 'Pages from Latvia' option). According to my experience (applied to the UK of course), this loses you about 50% of visitors from search engines.
Alternatively, you should also buy the local domain piparmetra.lv and submit this to the local search engines.

Well said and I'm aware of that, but an .lv domain is too expensive for me (student) and I can not afford it (20 pounds/year) and hosting in Latvia is very expensive compared to other countries, like the UK, Canada, the USA.
So even if I get a .lv domain, I won't be able to host it in Latvia, but foreign companies usually don't offer to host a .lv domain.

Having a look at the NIC.lv gave a clue that Latvia is a little behind with it's costing system in comparison to other countries.

The way most domain systems work is you have the main organisations that run the actual main backbone DNS databases, they then "for a price" allow other third party companies to buy and sell domain names in bulk, those companies then offer the service of selling domains to the individual.

Using this particular way is more economically viable for the initial organisation, as they gain a kind of Fee from these resellers for being able to buy bulk a little cheaper. Which means they don't have to wait around for every individual to be billed. Also if an individual doesn't pay, it's up to the reseller to hunt round for the money as apposed to the organisation.

Currently the .lv domains seem to sting in cost because of the lack of resellers in regards to the .lv domains. Perhaps eventually they will revamp the .lv domains, however they might be waiting out as they probably realise that their will be far less cybersquatters (people cloning company names into domain names), since people are less likely to fork out the $40 or so USD each year to squatt on a domain.
