    Not really?

“Mother of all living” just doesn’t apply to humans. But I don’t see anyone claiming the bible says she’s the origin of elephants, or porcupines.

So how does the bible show that Eve is the origin of mankind? In light of the fact that the origin of mankind has been revealed in the previous chapter?

    Can you answer that?

    Jan.

    Not so far.
So far, the ones on here have been pretty pathetic.
I’d love to say you’ve been the worst responder. But I would be lying.

I believe that Eve was the mother of porcupines. What is so hard to believe about that. The universe was created in 6 days, Eve was created from Adam's rib but it's beyond belief that she was the mother of porcupines?

That's what the Bible says so where is your evidence that this was not the case?

    Clearly.
I kinda reads that way, doesn't it?
I am harping on the fact that atheist have a better understanding of reality than theists.

Two Popes have acknowledged truth in Darwinian Evolution. Seems you are arguing against both realist and spiritual sides now.

I believe you should revisit the story of Adam and Eve in view of available real evidence for evolutionary processes, independent of Scriptural Genesis and Revelation.

Umm, I'm not sure what you mean if you are going by the text. How does Gen 1:2-23 say the Earth was barren? Gen 1:24-31 was the creation on cattle and man alike. Eve was not created until after Adam was brought to the garden(Gen 2:15-25). She could not have given birth to "apple trees" according to the text.

Where do you get that all of Earth was barren except the garden of Eden? Where in the text does it state that Eden was the only habitation for life on Earth and all other locations outside was barren?

God made the Garden for Adam because the rest of the earth was dry and barren, in total disregard for all the living things, including all those other people who supposedly existed at that time.
    I never claimed that.
God made the Garden for Adam because the earth was dry and barren.
Now do you see the contradiction?

here is some saucy stuff ....

    Gen 19:30-38
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:

32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

I didn't know how you came up with that according to the text. The Garden of Eden in "Heaven on Earth" which will return at the "end of days". Nowhere does it say that all the Earth was barren outside the Garden of Eden.

Adam and Eve brought the curse of mortality to mankind. This expelled them from the garden of Eden. Jesus brought the promise of eternal life to mankind where they will once again live in the garden of Eden after the day of judgment. This is spelt out in the writings of Paul.

Yes it does. At the time of God's creation of the Garden. It says God created the Garden for Adam only from the rest of harsh conditions on earth because he favored Adam and he had plans for Adam.
In the general discussion we have now added the concept "selected Adam from among men ( but no women), in an existing paradise and placed him in a very special garden so he could be productive but was then forced to create a female Eve to procreate with Adam)? Where did all these men come from? Oh lord. Of course, the Nephilim, those naughty demi-gods....

It says that, after Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden they had to toil the land. It doesn't say the land was barren.

    I edited my last post to include this;

Adam and Eve brought the curse of mortality to mankind. This expelled them from the garden of Eden. Jesus brought the promise of eternal life to mankind where they will once again live in the garden of Eden after the day of judgment. This is spelt out in the writings of Paul.

    Does any of this matter?

Its a made up story and not reality.

No doubt everyone must agree that it is a mere story.

Who cares if the myth says this or that as none of it relates to how humans evolved from an earlier species.
If the origin of humanity is of interest looking at our evolution from some earlier species enables the introduction of facts and observations that explain how we became what we are today will be more useful and factual than just making up stuff based on a biblical myth.

Where do you want to get your knowledge...from a made up biblical story which was originally presented by the Sumerians and apparently incorporated in the oral stories and later still in the book of Genisis... or do you want reliable knowledge from a multitude of scientific papers that rely upon mountains of evidence explaining how all life is involved in an evolutionary process ...

I think everyones time would be better spent learning about how humans evolved from an earlier species rather than trying to figure out what the biblical myth says or does not say...anyways the myth seems certainly a revamp of the Sumerian creation myth so perhaps look at what the original myth said and how it may have changed when written into Genisis and that way understanding the original Sumerian myth will give one a hint of the popular creation myths of the region and the times.

But that was after he made the Garden for Adam. Because there were no females in the garden, God had to create Eve to keep Adam company and presumably have his off-spring. And then become Mother of what?
Yes, I understand the symbolic metaphor .
It is part of human history ever since we looked up into the sky and tried to guess what we were looking at.
But then, if man is already cursed with mortality, there is a way to reverse this biological condition? And what is the day of Judgement? Armageddon? Suppose all people die and
Armageddon brings total extinction to the human race as God previously predicted. Heaven?
It's nice to have hope. I expect oblivion, and I'm ok with that.....

If believers could identify a location of course they would return...religious pilgrimages are rather common for believers.

This statement mine as well be a wet fart on a piece of paper. I'm not saying the text is true. I'm just saying the text does not say that the Earth was barren outside of the garden of Eden as you stated.

If you say so. I can only comment on the text.

    Yes it does.

    Genesis 1:20
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
    Genesis 1:24
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
    Genesis 1:25
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creeps on the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
    ===============================================
    And only then:
    Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
    ==============================

    Genesis 2:5
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
    Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
    Genesis 2:8
And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
    Genesis 2:9
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
    Genesis 2:15
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
    Genesis 2:18
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
    Genesis 2:19
And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
    Genesis 2:20
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
    Genesis 2:21
    And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
    Genesis 2:22
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man.
    Genesis 2:23
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
    Genesis 2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

    Adam saw the future?

They had not even eaten from the tree of knowledge yet.

They were "10 hairs removed from baboons" according to Lewis Black

I have a feeling I will regret asking this but .... Which translation is that from? It looks like an English reversion of an English traslation to me.
