If one place was the picture for a description of Earth, what would it be? I was never sure whether beauty on Earth was defined by power, complexity, placidity, or human creation.

In my opinion, the most beautiful place is Scotland. But I'm sure other people have different places they consider beautiful. I think New Jersey is pretty beautiful, to all you have not been there, or even to those who have, there are spots in New Jersey that are breathtaking. Spiturally high-grasped. And only 15 minutes away from poor forgotten Suburbia.

The best way to ruin it is to tell people where to find it so I'm not going to tell you.

---Edit to insert poem:

My Country
by Dorothea McKellar

a poem about Australia

The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies -
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!

The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.

Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die –
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.

Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.

An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land –
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand –
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

I'd say more the highlands, the mountains, etc. True, Loch Ness is on kind of the 'gateway' to the Highlnads, on that little strip of land that seperates 'upper' Scotland from 'lower' Scotland. I think that Loch Ness is too over-exposed to be beautiful. Well, of course it's beautiful, but not in the sense of it being a pinnacle of beauty. I'd like to think that the most beautiful part of Scotland is the part we see the least of.

Nepal in spring time. The majestic Himalaya is on one side and the valley (going down and down....) at the other.

Hawaii

Colorado rockies

Konark (India) beach in Full moon

My backyard in springtime watching stars...

Anywhere away from people....and beer cans...

I reckon Israel, Iran, Iraq... Australia, NZ, places in Europe. Some parts of Russia, of FL and AZ in the US. The rivers in China and of the southern America should be remarkable.

This entire planet is awesome to me. But is it our planet that make us love it, or the ppl that are some times there and some times not? Any one can give an opinion?

Cheers,

Guildenstern

THE MOST BEAUTIFULIST PLACE ON EARTH

I found it the best place on earth, and that is in my garden with my family, sitting next to my pond, and having a BBQ, peace at last.

Yep. Exactly. I could travel all over the world and see every place I ever wanted to see, yet could stilll be inspired by laying in the grass in my backyard after I got home. Your backyard is like a thetaer, where you are very comfortable with what goes on there, and (unless your property backs up to the Garden State Parkway), you feel very comforatble and safe. I suppose comfort and stabilty can act just as strong as awe, so in a sense we should be far more balanced than simply 'looking for adventure, love, or beauty.'

I'm with Congratulations

The western highlands of Scotland are truely awe inspiring, especially in the Loch Arkaig, Loch Eil and Sgurr Thulm horseshoe.
Miles from anywhere, no light pollution, amazing landscape.

And the occasional RAF fighter jet training over the area is good to watch as well. Sitting in a Canadian Kyak as a part of a flotilla, rafted up watching the Hornet and Tornado fighters playing tag in the valley around you. WOW.

And where else in the world can you find a place called Rub-a-dub Dub
