Socialism is not characterized by "Strong Controls on Banks, Hospitals, transportation, military, Police/fire etc"
Can you show somewhere? where socialism deals with "Controls on Banks, Hospitals, transportation, military, Police/fire etc"

Socialism in charge of the economy.

I post several times the definition of socialism.
Not even read or even to give another definition, which you know?

    "Socialism
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about socialism as an economic system and political philosophy. For socialism as a specific stage of socioeconomic development in Marxist theory, see Socialism (Marxism).

Socialism is an economic and political theory based on public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources.[1][2][3]
In a socialist economic system, production is carried out by a public association of producers to directly produce use-values (instead of exchange-values), through coordinated planning of investment decisions, distribution of surplus, and the use of the means of production. Socialism is a set of social and economic arrangements based on a post-monetary system of calculation, such as labour time, energy units or calculation-in-kind.[4]
Socialists advocate a method of compensation based on individual merit or the amount of labour one contributes to society.[5] They generally share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and derives its wealth through a system of exploitation. They argue that this creates an unequal society that fails to provide equal opportunities for everyone to maximise their potential,[6] and does not utilise technology and resources to their maximum potential in the interests of the public.[7] Socialists characterise full socialism as a society no longer based on coercive wage-labour, organized on the basis of relatively equal power-relations and adhocracy rather than hierarchical, bureaucratic forms of organization in the productive sphere."

By my untrained eye, this seems to be the trend.

Obviously, but democratic capitalist-socialist hybrid states like Canada, France, Sweden, etc, etc, are another completely unrelated "trend".

Good, so it seems that the people in this thread are talking past each other. The ``pro-Socialists'' are in favor of European style democracies, while the ``anti-Socialists'' are opposed to Soviet style dictatorships.

Hopefully it is apparent that everyone is talking past each other

    That's easy.

If 60% disapprove, they can leave me the hell alone. It's live and let live and property is the mediator; they can do what they want among themselves with their own property, and I can do what I want.

Force, votes, and anything else are unnecessary. Do we both need to vote if you want to go see a movie in whatever place you're at? No. It's your choice, and you're doing it with your money.

Nobody but the 40% that want it need even get involved.

I do not understand, we are not talking about socialism?
I show a definition of socialism, and I wondered if you have another.
I do not understand your answer.

I don't see the point in a "mixed economy", and yet many people seem to hail it as some holy grail. "Mixed economy" just means that your country has no political philosophy; either you believe in limited government or you don't. Thus you either believe in capitalism or communism.

    @ Spidergoat:

Regarding the "how" bit you asked, think of it like this: do you need my permission in order to have sex? No. Why in the world would you need my permission to share with others and live in a community with them?

Your life, your choice, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with me anyway; we don't need a vote or force.

    I do not know Ben,
But I saw enough propaganda, to be suspicious.
None say it is against socialism defined in Wiki and tell us about social-democracy and what that means for him.

"Social Democracy" is a euphemism for mob-rule socialism. Socialists believe that if 51% of the population say so, their ideology becomes suddenly "moral", but the truth is, doing something through government that you don't need to do through government is immoral (as in the case of my socialism vs spidergoat's socialism; he wants to legislate his morals and policies; I say just leave it to the individuals to live as they will)

"Socialism is an economic and political theory based on public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources."

everything I mentioned there are ran like this in Canada,

difference with our system in Canada is, it is none corrupt, why because our laws, and public ownership does not allow it, Instead of a few People In control of these Key elements of a strong secure economic Foundation, Is that they are owned by Canadians so the wealth is not controlled by a chosen few, which is where democracy comes to play in Canada.

My hospital down the street was built, is owned and is financed by me the Tax payer, and managed by my elected representative, basically who I Hired on a 4 year Contract to manage this hospital, None Profit.

Which spreads the wealth and cost and management out to the many instead of the few..Socialism.

we don't have to fill the definition to a tea, Like an early post were Hybrid in Canada, Were a young state, we have grew and watched all of your mistakes and achievements, and from that we did kinda build a hybrid system here in canada...

hell we never became a true international state untill 1982.

Something that is owned by everyone is owned by no-one.

well its a pattern here as well as in life. everyone is skipping the first step to having a good debate; come to an agreement on what the relevant terms mean.

Not if we're discussing political philosophy.
Very true, in practical terms, as nobody has rule over it.
