Will leave count of definitions at 3 because do not think this one counts

Anyone is free to disagree and request, anyone excluding globali, it be counted

    Strange no input from James

    Hee hee. Good try though.

Speed is a derived value, defined using time.

Hey, wait a minute. That's biased.
If you're collecting definitions and counting how many there are to make a point, you can't decide which ones you like and which ones you don't.

After all, kx000's non-definition made it through your filter just fine.

Why not just decide to exclude all but the one you like? Then your question answers itself.

    OK

    As per

    AND

    are both definitions

    Count now 5

I understand I might be missing at least one because the person posting a definition is on my Iggy list

Those who want that person's definition to be included feel free to paste a reference copy

    Cheers

I guess the universe was bereft of it before our "heads" came along.
Lucky for the universe we did.

So, the three dimensions of space didn't come along until either until they had our "head" to exist in?

This sounds like the little person who close their eyes and puts their hands over them and thinks THEY/OR THE WORLD have vanished

So, the three dimensions of space didn't come along until either until they had our "head" to exist in?

Seriously? You are down to this level?

You cannot envision any stuff existing until it is experienced?

Oh well, post not a description of TIME so nothing to count

Holding at 6 not including the Rovelli description

I had thought there would be a lot more since I have been told 'everyone KNOWS TIME exist'

I was considering the prospect of melding numerous descriptions of TIME into a inclusive description

Does not appear to be possible, even if mine is left out

Anyone is welcome to try and post their results

I am often amazed at how seemingly functioning people can be so stupid.

That is functionally equivalent to what you wrote about time. It's absurd isn't it?

It's absurd. Are you getting it now? (Michael, I think you need to review the last few posts, because you're tripping over your own arguments.)

The very idea that space doesn't exist except in our heads is as absurd as the idea that time doesn't exist except in our heads.

That's my point. Your suggestions that time is any less real than space are absurd.

Show me a bucket of space. Yet you have no trouble considering it real. Yet, for some unexplained reason, you don't apply the same thinking to time.

Let's keep in mind that the burden is not on us to demonstrate that time does exist; the burden is on you to demonstrate that time does not exist.

Here it is, in one form of all its glory: t. I can produce a dozen more on a whim, or you can find them yourself.

That literally describes the real world. To-wit: You cannot even drive down your street at the speed limit without t.

    QED.

And how long have you been a SciForums member? The learning curve is steep initially, but flattens pretty quickly - amazement becomes commonplace, even anodyne.

Erm. Hopefully, the sole source of Michael's learning is not SciFo. Otherwise he's most definitely over his head in physics and most definitely should not be making personal assertions.

We're giving him that benefit of doubt, and expecting thoughts informed from knowledge, not ignorance.

    Another definition of TIME

    t = d/v

    Count now 7

Keep in mind this thread is

    What is time?

Does TIME exist is another thread

That's not a definition, in the same sense that pink (one flavour of red) is not a definition of red.

If you do want to include it, then there are literally hundreds of other equations that use t.

OK, I was reacting to your post above, where you say:

It seemed like you were back on the 'everyone is sure it exists despite the fact that no one can describe it' track.

Here is a another (mostly poetic) definition.

Time is the price we pay for not being photons

Time is within the biology of every living being.

If we were to traverse SOMEONE'S time-line, it would look as follows...

    2--------
    -------/
    -----/
    ---/
    -/
    /
    ------1

And so it is probably biology and the study of genetics that will answer such questions.

But a definition? Time is the distance between two moments.

Given that time is within us, should we traverse time, we will travel through our Mothers, Grand-Mothers, and every previous being until we reach a singularity. Humanity is ONE family tree emerging from a singular being.

Knowing this my own attempt to traverse time emerges from being "in-sync" (on-time) with the timeS (time being the singular of timeS.)

The Mother-child timeline looks as follows:

    21
    ||
    1-0
    |
    0

With minus-one being the child's correlation to the Mother. Perhaps being AT minus-one (song listened to, birthday celebrated, Christmas card written) would cause one to traverse time?

Traversing "time" as shown means that nothing changes: all that is discovered is that it was YOU who stepped on that bug. Nothing new. As you are simply VIEWING, you will see all that you WILL do.

    Descriptive number is 7 +?

The +? is there in case someone in my Iggy list has described TIME but I am unaware they have done so

If anyone else has a description please add

None I have read are convincing to me, and from some of my readings many highly qualified professionals are saying time does not exist
