    there was that dude who said some quote about that. (how vague)
    it was something about studying politics and war so his sons could study literature and science so their sons could study art and music.
    or something not like that at all. but yeah, art is the ultimate in useless pursuits so it's a sign of refinement and a leisurely society devoid of conflict. the better off your society is, the more art/culture it produces.

    Just curious, what do sons/daughters of artists study? Do artists have children?! (You can hear my major concerns for the past year or two.)
