Even cold-blooded atheists like me have a favorite Christmas (or, more appropriately, Paganmas) carol. What's yours? I like Silent Night, the little Drummer Boy, and something from Austria that I don't know the name of, but the music I had for it was dated 1955. Does anybody know the name of this one?

"How soft are the shadows, the evening is mild.
I come to watch o'er Thee, my sweet Holy Child.
A song I shall sing Thee, a soft lullaby,
For Thou art not sleeping, how gentle Thy cry.
Lullaby, lullaby, how gentle Thy cry."

    Oxygen,

Yes, it's not surprising that the birth of Jesus would inspire so many wonderful songs!

I'm not sure about the Austrian one, but how about Handel's "Messiah"??? Silent Night is one of my favorites, too. And THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY... What a beautiful song!!! Thanks for reminding me!

    Pum-pum-pum, pum-pum...

    Baby Jesus, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    I am a poor boy, too, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

I have no gifts to bring, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    That's fit to give a King, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum, pum-pum...

Shall I play for you? Pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum, pum-pum...

    On my drum? Pum-pum-pum, pum-pum...

    Mary nodded, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum...

The ox and lamb kept time, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum...

I played my drum for Him! pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum!!!

    Pum-pum-pum! Pum-pum-pum!

I played my BEST for Him, pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum!

    Rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum!

    Rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum!

    Pum-pum-pum! Pum-pum!

    So, TO HONOR HIM!!! pah-rrrrhum-pah-pum-pum...

    Pum-pum-pum! Pum-pum!

    Me and my drum, pum-pum-pum, pum-pum-pum, pum-pum-pum...

    Oxygen,

Yeah, me too! My very favorite has always been O Holy Night, but Silent Night and Little Drummer Boy run a close 2nd & 3rd!

Sorry - don't know the Austrian song. I'll see what I can find.

    Oxygen,

One of the songs on that page that didn't have lyrics seems like a likely candidate, called "The Holy Infant's Lullaby". Give it a listen and see if that's what you are looking for.

O Holy Night gives me chills every time I hear it. That's a beautiful song. I also have to hear the Elvis Christmas album every year; my favorite is his Blue Christmas. Jesus and Elvis. My two favorite men.

I gave it a listen. Unfortunately it wasn't the song I was looking for. Fortunately, it was a beautiful piece I had never heard before and my life is the richer for it. I listened to a lot of old songs I had forgotten, wallowed in the memories of Christmas Past, and recalled a simpler day when the only thing I had to worry about was what time dad was getting home so we could all sit in the front room and talk about our days. Sigh! Memories that bless and burn!

Well, since I'm sitting here listening to spoof Christmas songs, my current favorite would have to be "Yellow snow"

I don't think I have heard that one SkyeBlue. I'm really enamored with the Ren & Stimpy's Crock O' Christmas CD. It's a blast. I think everyone should have one in their home.

Have a beautiful Christmas everyone and don't forget that it's the Birthday of Jesus,

    SkyeBlue & ISDAMan,

There are some funny ones out there, but I'm not sure if I've heard either of those.

Lori - it looks like we might actually agree on something (O Holy Night - not the rest of it)! How'd that happen?

Hey, how did you get a little green grinning smilie? Cool! Now, wait a minute....what about Elvis?! How can you not love Elvis??!! Here's one of his...I'm singin' this one this year for sure...

    I don't need a lot of presents
    to make my Christmas bright.
All I need is my baby's arms
    wound around me tight.
    Oh Santa, hear my pleadin'!
Santa bring my baby back to me!

    Oh make those reindeer hurry.
    The time is drawing near.
It sure don't seem like Christmas.
    Oh where's my baby? A hub, a hub, a hub, a hubba...

    Fill my stocking with candy
And some bright and shiny toys.
But if you wanna make me happy
And fill my heart with joy.
    Oh Santa, hear my pleadin'!
Santa bring my baby back to me!

    Lori,

Okay, I admit it - I do like some of Elvis's songs. He does a particularly stirring rendition of (hold onto your knickers) "How Great Thou Art". I'll bet you weren't expecting that?!

For the green smilies, just type a colon, followed immediately by a D. They are kinda cool, huh?

Don't worry Oxygen, I'll balance things out by listening to some "secular" music.

I LOOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEEE Christmas Carols. Thats not surprising due to the fact that I listen to them in July. Why does everyone keep looking at me like that?

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

I'm not different, I'm just weird!

I like 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'. 'O Holy Night' is Good. 'Silent Night,' 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.' 'Joy to the World' and the 'First Noel' that the angels did say to certain poor shepards in.....

I recently got a new cd. Its called Happy Christmas. Its a lot of Christmas set to mellow Rock. Away in a manger is pretty heavy though. O Holy Night is really awesome on it.

    Testing...

    Happy Holidays -

My favorite is probably the version of O Come All Ye Faithful that I am listening to as I write this. It has no vocals, instead the verses are alternated by a flute player and Arturo Sandoval on a piccolo trumpet. Its a very beautiful and pure sound in the beginning and the end. After the first two verses, it abrubtly switches to a jazz trumpet feature (In sandoval style, if you've ever heard any of his music

) and then switches back to classical style after about a minute. Great song

"No Presents for Christmas" by King Diamond. Just a wacky heavy-metal parody of Christmas carols. I never did understand all the lyrics, though, because I never saw them written and just try to understand that man.... But it had something to do with Santa being to freakin' blitzed to fly.

    thanx,
    Tiassa

Yellow Snow is by Bob Rivers - he has a series of CD's called "Twisted Christmas" with all kinds of great funny songs, either weird stuff sung to Xmas carols, or Christmas-themed songs sung to Beetles tunes and such. Perfect for playing at work. Here's some fave's of mine:

Yellow Snow (tune of "Let it snow")
Police Stop my Car ("Feliz Navidad")
Buttcracker Suite (oh, man, this one gets me laughing so hard my eyes water)

I do like traditional Christmas music too, but I tend to avoid the heavy religious ones. Not because I don't like them, but because I tend to sing whatever is stuck in my head, and I don't want to wander around singing about Jesus when everybody knows I don't believe in him. I don't want someone thinking I'm poking fun at their holiday, y'know? It's much easier to explain why I'm singing about wedgies and buttcracks.

(I love the toothy grin, marvelous discovery, Searcher!!!)

I have a great "Classical Christmas" cd set that's just instrumental versions of Christmas carols, I guess that's my real favorite.
