    Poor Glen

A full-blown mess is spattering all over Twitter right now. Idrees Ahmad↱ offers a reaction that should approximately sketch the rumor of scandal:

This is extraordinary. @theintercept founder @ggreenwald, who in the past has called people who delete their tweets "cowards", appears to have deleted over 27,000 on July 22nd. This seems to be a very deliberate & systematic purge. Some I've checked relate to Russia & Syria

This is what we're looking at:

    • Recently, Glenn Greenwald drew some attention with a pandering appearance on Russia Today.

― This has created a lot of noise, with celebrities including political cartoonists calling Greenwald out and even disputing among each other.

    • Greenwald's husband recently announced a run for Congress in Brazil, where they live.

    • Someone makes the point about twenty-seven thousand tweets being deleted five days ago.

Let's try to stay ahead of this:

    (1) Possible clumsy execution of standard political-family cleanup related to campaign.

    (2) Potential of real scandal about top-tier journalist and political figure in unsavory international operation.

    (3) Potential of provocateur scandal against Greenwald or his political-candidate husband.

What will the real scandal turn out to be? Ahmad goes on to note, to the one↱, "It appears Greenwald has deleted tweets by date. All older tweets in date ranges from 2013, 2014, 2015 are gone." And, to the other↱ he throws this rhetorical firebomb: "Note that Greenwald's views have paralleled the Kremlin since the start of the Syrian conflict. He has in fact actively recruited regime apologists."

Naturally, there is also an article link, from two years ago, in which Ahmad blasts Greenwald↱'s behavior. Nonetheless, even without some activist making noise and a writing team with standing beef, it's true, many who have read his work over the years find The Intercept founder's behavior of later really, really weird.

So that's the thing; if Greenwald is bought off, who, really, would be surprised? If someone is provocateuring, well, who, really, would be surprised? If the guy who has shouted about clumsy politicians for over a decade has just clumsily executed clumsy political ritual, again, y'know, who, really, would be surprised?

Follow the scandal; let's see where it goes and find out what it actually is.
