Why does Europe have such a high suicide rate?

And what's wrong with having a high suicide rate? Their deaths are easily replenished. Why waste resources on someone not wanting to live? They were semi-productive while they lived, but now don't get any social security or other benefits. Hey, sounds like the perfect slave!

Indeed. Just goes to show that it is not a lack of money or material comforts that drives one to desperation.
May be it is a lack of belongingness and optimism. In a culture like Indian, you have belongingness regardless of how rich or poor you are. And a survey recently said Indians were intrinsically most optimistic about future, whatever position each of them was currently in.

Finland has a slight problem with a depressing climate combined with a culture of alcoholism and individualism.

But mostly the figures are probably a reflection of honesty.

In some countries it is still a taboo to suicide. Nobody in Finland could care less. It's normal. It's what people do. So no need to hush it up.

 

That and snowmobiling will certainly keep the numbers down. And improve the population.

 

The nice thing of suiciders in finland is that they often take their family with them. You would think that if there is a suicide gene, it would be gone by now.
