There's no time limit to missing white woman syndrome. And these days vintage cases might attract less criticism and rebuke than fresh disappearances of debs, socialites, divas, bridesmaids, Karens, etc (that were traditionally opportune for fixating on). While usually a phenomenon attributed to media coverage, police can still have their own brand of preoccupation with MWW, including these unsolved mysteries and trips down memory lane that hold the prospect of closure for the afflicted parties, with respect to at least discovering and identifying the remains.
Likely, but not absolute. Regardless, at this stage it's really more about finding and identifying the potential remains of victims and bringing an end to any dangling, lingering trauma of the applicable families. Unlike K-pop, perhaps the idea of "closure" has not migrated to all parts of the world yet.
The fact is, sometimes cold cases are solved and murderers are found. There's no way you can say in advance that the killer won't be found.
