For a man who puts so much stock behind IQ (you), my IQ is tested by a certified psychologist and ended up in 99.95 percentile, plus or minus .05 percentile. I took the WISC-IV so it didn't give me a solid score.

As Dwyddyr mentioned, the Beach Boys are from Norway, which was of course part of the Soviet Union until WWII, when the USA invaded Scandanavia and annexed it (with help from the Ottoman Empire, of course). The Soviet leader, Adolph Hitler, of course wasn't happy about this, which is why he started the Vietnam war against NATO. Obviously.

Pfffft!! Like anyone who chooses a username based on an outdated, unpopular, obsolete 4-speaker sound system could ever teach ME anything about history. Nice try 4 speaker man. Try joining the 21th century with Dolby!

Nah, I'm way too retro for that. I've actually switched back to mono. I just have this one huge horn speaker, made out of wood, that takes up an entire room. And I play records on it using one of those ancient machines that uses the tube-shaped records and has to be hand-cranked.

These days my biggest concern is whether to replace my smartphone with a telegraph, or just go all the way to smoke signals.

Ok. You got me. Rugby is offically called Rugby Football. It was, as you point out, called that in order to distinguish it from all other forms of football being played at the time, in the same way that football/soccer was called Association Football.

However, as you also point out, it is easy to understand that when one is referring to rugby now they are talking about rugby football. The distinctions made are now within the game of rugby, (union/league) and no longer is rugby a sport that needs the differences between it and football/soccer overtly spelt out. It is a sport in it's own right and has no need to make that distinction necessary. I mean, as captain of your school's team, (congrats on that btw...that's a pretty big achievement at a school synonomous with the game :thumbsup

, how many times have you asked anybody if they wanted a game of rugby football? It seems alien to me. I played football for my school and never once did I ever hear anyone ask me if I wanted a game of association football.

If any game in the world that has the word football in it's offical name has the right to be called just football, it's association football for the simple reason that it is the only game in which the foot is the only appendage that is allowed to be used, (specialists notwithstanding). Other forms of football should be the ones making their differences obvious from it, be it American or, if you want, rugby. I don't think rugby does need it since it has already undergone a schism within it's self and when referring to rugby football it's still not clear what game you're actually talking about (union or league). But, hey, if you really want it I won't argue with you.

P.S. To the poster saying that football in Ireland is refered to as soccer: it bloody well isn't! The governing body is called the FIA.

I count about a dozen uses of the term "soccer" on the linked homepage. And about the only places where I see the term "football" used, is in the phrase "association football" or "football association" - which is exactly what "soccer" is an abreviation for to begin with.

Really? I only see one reference to "soccer". For a camp for kids. None at all to "association football". "Football association" is not the same thing as "association football". I see numerous references to "football".

There is another type of football here called Gaelic football but when a distinction needs to be made it is soccer that is referred to as football and Gaelic football is referred to as gaa. Otherwise both are called football.

Well...since we're in the cesspool now.

"Red" rabbit? That must mean you're one of those homo communist fruitcakes that thinks that 'Mericun football is not the best in the world. If any of you tea-drinking nancy-boys played real sports...you need a helmet and pads...like us manly 'Mericuns.

    J/k Red

Ok..I'll stop now. Dywyddyr just threatened me with a cricket bat. Anyone want to take bets that the troll won't come back after his 3 day banning? I think his ADD will kick in before that.

"Manly"? More like "Armadilloly". Suck it up and get hit where it hurts you pile of cup-wearing-time-out-using-four-million-substitutes-a-game nancy boys. Ask phlogistician, he'll tell you all about pain!!

Note: I love 'Mericun football. Well, on the playstation. There's too much ballroom dancing after every point to interest me in the real thing. It's like trying to watch tanks hump.

Welcome Juliet...please do not interpret the discourse in this thread to be the normal for Sciforums (unless you count the religion and politics forum) We are just having fun at the expense of a recently banned troll. Welcome.
