It rains and rains and the worms are laying on the sidewalk. I hate that. I end up walking in the mud because I don't want to squish them. why do they do that?
Water soaks into the soil. Worms have to breathe so they come out of the ground for oxygen. That's what I think anyway.
why don't they go deeper where the soil is drier? And if they come up, why don't they lay in the grass?
Hmmm. Possibly it takes longer to dig than to drown? Not too sure, and maybe the grass retains water better than the concrete does. Kinda like when you step on what you think is dry grass and then your foot just sinks from all the water.
