First saw it 12 years ago, and was utterly enchanted with the feel of the film; Dalle's raw sensuality, the relaxed, yet sometimes also nervous pacing, the hysterically funny laughter in the foreground but with actual insanity lurking always in the background. And of course, the unnervingly good soundtrack - acutely scary, or intensely relaxing etc, you have no choice but to feel the composer wants.

Beneix, I feel, scored a one-hit-wonder with this film; I can't think why such a successful flick on the European scene wasn't followed up by great acclaim for him.

Another film in a similar vein (an examination of madness) is L'Enfer, much less well-known, but equally good, and starring the gorgeous Emmanuelle Beart.

    Jaybee.
