I just got my new computer put together, and since I had ZoneAlarm as my firewall before, I was wondering if I should use it again. I consider it an "allright" free program. But are there better free programs?

Note: I refuse to use the suck ass firewall offered through my illegal version of windows XP.

Why not use an illegal copy of Norton Firewall while you're at it? I find it much better then Zone Alarm.

The problem is that I would have to do one of two things:

    1. Download an illegal from WinMX or Kazaa.
    2. Barrow a copy from a friend.

I really don't need more illegal software on my computer.

Sygate Personal Firewall is good for monitoring all the programs that send and recieve anything from the interent, it blocks port scans and can trace them if you want (Some person/company in North Carolina has tried scanning my computer 5 times in the last month!) , and you can give permission/block any program trying to send information out, even Windows' services. Best of all it's free! It's not a crappy freeware program though, Sygate makes professional-level firewalls too, like Norton.

I've been running it for about half a year now, and it's working great.

I have zonealarm, so I'm not against it, but I feel like zonealarm signs me out of msn messenger after a while. Stupid thing is: you don't see this right away. Only when you try to say something, a window will pop up, saying you're not logged in.

Messenger has all the privileges I can give it in the zonealarm menus.

Am I paranoid? Or does anyone else ever experienced this?

I find that after awhile on my trillian my msn connection gets cut, and I don't have any firewalls except my router, which I don't believe would affect a connection originating from my computer. Fortunately trillian is smart enough to catch this and displays signs that it is no longer connected.

Hold on, Zone Alarm is free, now? Why is it that they ask you to pay for it, then? The only free download I see at http://www.zonelabs.com is for a trial version.

    Haha...

Using the default firewall? I'd rather die.

Zonealarm gets the job done, and blocks pop ups while its at it..
