View Full Version : what is better nintendo gamecube or the x_box? Decimator 03-13-02, 01:04 AM I seem to like the gamecube beter it is smaller and designed ALOT better than the X-box also it doesn't overheat. Pollux V 03-13-02, 06:35 AM the pc is better. I upgraded a two year old one that wasn't even top-of-the-line in it's prime and now it is a gaming monster! I looooove it! Don't waste money on consoles, because they are a waste of money! Jordan 03-13-02, 03:09 PM PS2>GC>XBox LIGHTBEING 03-13-02, 03:40 PM It's all about PS2....gamecube ain't even in the same class and X-Box will just over heat and crash NightFall 03-13-02, 06:20 PM ps2 hands down...... but.. between gc and xbox.... id hafta choose x box becuase of its large memory, better graphics, and becuase it stores cd's..... ive never had the over heating problem. however.. i have found that the xbox travels better than ps2 (or atleast the first few ps2's... the younger one seems to be ok) and, although you all prolly know this.... keep your ps2 covered if you smoke. the dust will fall in there and mess up the tracks.... again.. that is something ive only seen with the first ones that came out. Bebelina 03-13-02, 07:20 PM PS2.....Wipeout Fusion....wrrroooommmm.....b´bye...:D Asguard 03-13-02, 09:07 PM Just use a good computer. There is so much more choice in games and you can do more with it LIGHTBEING 03-14-02, 08:22 AM I find console games more entertaining. There is just something about having a PS2 with a huge monitor, a comfortable controller and surround sound. Feels like you are more into the game. Pine_net 03-14-02, 01:47 PM For now I say the X-Box because the only games I play are Halo and Max Pyane. Both of which are truly in a league of their own separate from the console controlling it. So if the playstation2 or game cube can play them better, I'm all for it! LeoDV 03-14-02, 03:45 PM People who say the X-Box is best because of the hardware go play some Jaguar. GameCube is better than the X-Box, undoubtedly. More, better games, controller that isn't so big you need to be a pro weightlifter to wield it, but most of all Miyamoto. To me, Miyamoto Shigeru is the greatest genius of video games history. He created Mario and tons of other great games, but most of all he created Zelda. His games provide a gaming experiecne like no other and frankly if for some reason he started developing for Saturn or something, then I'd follow him. I know this will make me out to be a fanboy, but there are some people which I believe are geniuses, and Miyamoto is one, and since his creations are interactive, then I wish to enjoy them. Avatar 03-14-02, 04:15 PM gamecube>xbox>ps2>pc tht's how I see it LIGHTBEING 03-14-02, 04:19 PM Avatar, You read in Hebrew right? :D Avatar 03-14-02, 04:24 PM no, tht's the right order:D i really mean it:bugeye: LIGHTBEING 03-14-02, 04:27 PM PS2, X-BOX, GAMECUBE, PC Please read from left to right LeoDV 03-15-02, 03:27 AM PC has nothing to do with this. Comparing PCs with consoles is a pointless argument because they aren't the same thing at all. As far as X-Box vs. PS2 vs. GameCube is concerned, I think right now the PS2 is objectively the best because it just has all those great games - though the fact that it only has two player slots is a real bother. And I, for one, love the GameCube philosophy : it's a gaming console. No more, no less. No DVD, no coffee maker, just games. And as far as X-Box is concerned, first of all the design is evil and rude : use of x86 for sole market resons (Wintel), and the rest goes the same way : bad GPU, one block memory, inappropriate architecture... Plus, the badness of the design can be seen even from outside : it's big as a VCR, it overheats. The controller is fucking huge, and to me the controller is primordial, since not only it is the main interface between yo_u and the game (with the TV), but also and most of all, it's how well you handle the controller that directs (at least for me) how deep you go in the game. And that controller is very evil. Six buttons, all of them misplaced, the two sticks are as far away as possible, same with the Start/Select buttons and the two triggers. I saw a small boy try it out as I went shopping for a new mouse, and his hands were two small to eveng o around the handles, or tap the keys, or the analogs - he could only do a thing at once! I knew that kid was very small, but STILL! And now, for the ONE thing that makes a console good : games. PS2 : dozens of great games. GC : less games, but that's because it's a year younger, and tons of super, exclusive hits are coming (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Eternal Darkness, and more, much more...), so that'll prolly be the one I'll be going with. X-Box : even less games, out of which only one is good, Munch's Oddyssey, Halo being utter shit, and Amped being beautiful, but pointless. Nah, I'm exagerating. There's DO3 and a couple more games, but most of the games that are coming to X-Box are just PS2 ports or bad games. There are less, and less good games coming for the X-Box. And gotta love how they locked the DVD function to make us rack up more money. In short, the XBox is good only to fry your breakfast on. Now : PS2 > GCN > XB In potential : GCN > PS2 >XB esp 03-15-02, 04:13 AM Originally posted by Jordan PS2>GC>XBox I concur! Xelios 03-15-02, 11:17 AM I own an X-Box, and I wouldn't trade it for a GC or a PS2 any day. People who say the controllers are too big are either going with the trend or have never even held one. They are the perfect size, and I'm not some freak with huge hands either. The built in HD allows you to install patches for games without buying another CD just for the game. It allows you to download your own music onto it, then playback songs while in a game as if they were part of that game's soundtrack. Not to mention it plays DVD's and music CDs. With games like Halo and Max Payne, not to mention games like the new 007 and Wreckers due to come out in the spring, X-Box is very much alive. I don't know where you people get the idea that it has no interesting games coming out, besides the ones listed above you've got Tony Hawk 3, Terminator: Dawn of Fate (ooo! ;P ), Chase and many more. I have never had the problem of my X-Box overheating, it has crashed on me twice since christmas but what game console doesn't? Personally, Nintendo had its chance with the N64, 50% of the games for it were aimed at younger audiences (probably around 6-10 years old) and most of the others either sucked or looked like a children's cartoon. I will never touch Nintendo again. The only competition I see for the X-Box is the PS2. The PS2 obviously has more games because a) its been out longer than X-Box and b) you can play PS1 games on it. However what it lacks is exceptional graphics, a hard drive, the ability to install patches for games and the ability to upload your own music. I never liked their controllers either. =( There's my opinion. XBox is more expensive, but sometimes the extra $150 is worth it, this is one of those times. Thirty Seven 03-16-02, 06:45 AM HA! 'Twas a trick question! Dreamcast is the best! Then GCN, then XBOX, then ps2. I also believe that console games are funner than pc games, because you feel more in the game. Avatar 03-16-02, 07:03 AM not true Deus-Ex -> I have played it 12.5 times and counting it is a masterpiece and I have spent days playing it without leaving pc for mre thn just a few hours +civilization3 +Age of Empires II +Soldier of Fortune +Final Fantasy +Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn - a masterpiece also +Dune 2000 +C&C Magenta 03-21-02, 04:20 PM ps2 and xbox own my heart =) ;) MangoMan 03-22-02, 03:43 AM PC > GC > XBOX = PS2 = crapola Tristan 03-22-02, 11:23 AM By far playstation 2 takes the gold for best game console. Even my friend who got X-box when it first came out, now says he would rather have had playstation 2. X-box has one quality game. Xelios 03-26-02, 06:25 PM X-box has one quality game. First of all, not every person will agree on the quality of the games. For example, I think there are at least 5 X-Box games that are very good. Someone else may not like any of them. Second, X-Box has not been out nearly as long as the PS2. There's a long list of games coming out in the next couple months, including some very promising titles such as James Bond, Wreckless and... well, I've already listed them in this thread. Third, X-Box bests the PS2 in every field in respect to hardware. It is faster, more powerful and can store anything from music to game patches on it's hard drive. The graphics are both more intense and more detailed, and the framerate leaves nothing to be desired. The controllers (IMO) are way better, they aren't too big at all, in fact I've been waiting for a controller like this since I bought my first NES. With the introduction of online gameplay this spring, IMO X-Box easily bests the PS2 and GC. Of course, I'd still rather play on a PC =) relleumsirhc 07-20-02, 12:01 AM OKAY I THINK I SPEAK FOR MOST PPL WHEN I SAY THIS..... PS2= THE BEST ONE yes, sadly PS2 is the dominating system ONLY because it has been out for a year more than the others. GC= RUNNER UP gamecube is trailing behind PS2 but when sony stops making games 4 PS2 and start focusing on PS3 gamecube WILL dominate... MUYAMOTO!!! Xbox= CRAP that pretty much explains it. A4Ever 07-20-02, 07:08 AM A PC is the best gaming machine out there, if you have the luck to get your hands on a good one. You can also store music on it's hard drive and install patches :) :) The PC, if you're interested, has a HUGE backcatalogue, which no console can top. Play Shadow President on yar PS One or 2... You'll say who wants to play old crap anyway? There are some real gems out there, I do not agree with you :) The big pro for a console is that the games are dedicated to that one machine. It gets the max out of a 733 cpu and that type of gpu. This is something that pc games sometimes lack. If it is written for a Geforce 3 with few options to tune down, your Geforce 2 which was top of the line a year ago, will not cut it. On the consoles: I heard a lot of bad things about xbox. Overheating and even breaking down. I read on Morrowind forums that it will not let you play when the character is above level 8, that it gives dirty disc messages for clean discs, that you have to flush the cash if it keeps crashing etc etc... I wouldn't buy one until I knew for certain what is going on. The ps2 has te most games, but I feel like Sony cheated on us. I have an old Edge magazine, which had an interview with a Sony guy explaining us the greatness of ps2. He said "if you're gonna use it as a classic machine and put engine in memory A and textures in memory B, you won't see a big performance leap. It will do alright, but not fantastic. But if you use it the way it is designed, and let it do lots of random stuff and use the thread programming (?) it will revolutionise". Either noone understood what he was talking about, or all programmers use it with the A and B model, cause there was never a huge leap. This story made me non interested in the console. The Gamecube looks cool. Nintendo followed their own way, not throwing gigahertzes at ya, but making a platform which they needed for the games they want to bring. I respect their line of thought. Sony was already working on ps3 when ps2 came out. That is no dedication. I also feel like they are going past kid's games this time. More adult games. So, if you're willing to invest a LOT: pc>gamecube>ps2>xbox or pc>ps2>gamecube>xbox If you're really console orientated or do not wish to invest a lot of your money: put the pc behind the xbox. :) relleumsirhc 07-20-02, 12:26 PM ^ | | I COULD NOT AGREE WITH U MORE A4EVER right there u summed up EXACTLY what i thought about the consoles. Zero 07-21-02, 02:18 PM Gamecube is for babies. Heck, how old are you to be still playing Mario? 3 years old? Cmon, grow up. Xbox is the product of Microsoft, therefore it is the product of ruthless marketing and cruelty and immorality to other budding companies. Heck, Microsoft even has the monopoly on operating systems. The only user freiendly (the one that does not need comp expertise, the majorty of comp users are stupid people who do not know what a RAM or ROM is, so you must cater to them to win the market) one is fucking windows!! I dream of the day when Microsoft will be splintered into tiny smithereens, maybe 200 different companies. A4Ever 07-21-02, 03:02 PM Gamecube is for babies. That is just not true. There are enough mature games out there. I dream of the day when Microsoft will be splintered into tiny smithereens, maybe 200 different companies. Heil to the new age of incompatibility and driver issues. relleumsirhc 07-21-02, 10:42 PM Gamecube is for babies. Heck, how old are you to be still playing Mario? 3 years old? Cmon, grow up. Okay THAT is the stupidest thing to say. DO YOU have Gamecube? Are you saying Gamecube has Only ONE GAME AND ONE GAME ONLY?? Are you saying you need BLOOD AND GUTS to make a game interesting?Does a game HAVE to be Mature to be fun? So you think MARIO is for BABIES. GAMECUBE ITSELF is for babies. Yes, that is one mans opinion but I would like to hear yours AFETR you get gamecube and played all the games. I hardly think your opinion will be the same. foxiedoogie 07-23-02, 09:50 PM well some one game that is truely the best and i do not know what system, it is for is jimmy neutron yeah!! u wont believe it but i swear to GOD that it is better then RE which is based on fighting zombies which can get a little boring but now jimmy neutron is a instant classic because u have a freakin lazer and u bal;st away aliens that stole your parents and u r doing good for the world!!!!! :) MangoMan 07-27-02, 10:33 AM First off, to be realistic, GameCube is NOT for babies. Perhaps it is aimed more at children, but nintendo tries to make an 'all ages' system more than anything. Secondly, what nintendo does the best is innovation, something completely lacking from PS2 crap. Nobody makes games like nintendo. Period. Tristan 07-29-02, 12:01 PM First off, james bond just sucks. screw the x-box. No quality games avalible on x-box. I think the only one I saw was a verion of Resident evil, but that may have been for GC. And let me set the record straight. There is no fricken comparison when you talk about the PS controlers. x-boxes controllers arre not bad but still not nearly as good as PS. They are litterally perfect. Later T:cool: lotuseatsvipers 07-29-02, 12:43 PM Well if you like fun enjoyable games then its the Gamecube. If you like being dazzled by bright graphics for 20 minutes its the xbox If you HAVE to play gt3, or gta3, or ffX, maybe a few others (not many though) then get the ps2. Its all about opinion, and its all about the games. IMO people who buy Xbox aren't usually really gamers, just causual gamers who like pretty graphics. same goes for a big chunk of the ps2 crowd. gc >> ps2 >> xbox |
