View Full Version : your all insane
hello
The other day I was reading throught one of my moms old psychology books and it was talking about genius being akin to insanity and saying thats not true, while ill agree all geniuses are not insane but there is a tendency in some of the truly great minds althought that is my opinion. I was thinking maybe there something that allows them to see or experience things in a different way that gives them insight. what are yalls thoughts.
bye
everyone has a flaw. in genius' minds, everything goes faster, stronger, better, and so does the flaw. it stands out more. i think.
anyone else?
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-15-02, 10:44 PM I thought that geniuses, though well-endowed in one area, are generally stupid in the rest. Like Einstein, who was brilliant (or so some say), but he didn't wear socks (??) or something like that...Plus how one part of his brain was bigger than normal..might stop something else from growing?
Also, I find that if some of my friends are particularly good at something (Math), they tend to suck big time at something else (Art, Sports). Not that they're physically incapable or artistically handicapped, but they it's like they give up their coordination and reflex skills for Mathematics.
Nowadays, the old notion of “insanity” has been fragmented into numerous conditions with names. So what’s your definition?
Anyway, this reminds me of when people put brilliant writers and alcoholism together, etc. Though I do think that if you’re a genius (whatever exactly that is), you probably have more absorbing things on your mind than remembering to adhere to behavioural norms, and comb your hair.
Stryder 10-16-02, 06:21 AM If you can imagine the human brain as just a standard CPU (A processor for one of these computers *points at 'puter*)
You have an understanding while someone can be extremely intelligent but might be absent minded, or slightly oscure.
Let's say an average human being with their processor uses 35% for thought, and the rest a mixture of eating, sleeping, interacting with people, tidyness, standing upright, breathing, linguistics, grammer etc.
In computer terms these processes would be running under priorities, where the more important priorities have access to more area.
A genius will undoubtably be using more of his brain for thoughts and theory, which means it gains the higher priority and since the brain is finite in dimension, all the other area's lessen in priority.
So a person might be extremely smart, but suffer from not cleaning or socialising (Like Socrates), or they could forget socks by all means.
your all insane
Thank you!:D (laughs maniacly)
Seriously though, most brilliant ideas come from a different view of the world. Then you get the resources to present and use the idea. That's when you become famous.
pumpkinsaren'torange 10-16-02, 03:54 PM I thought that geniuses, though well-endowed in one area
and...which area might that be...????:bugeye: :o :D
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-16-02, 05:18 PM :D :D depends what kind of a genius you are, eh? ;)

youre right I should have been more specific. A mental illness that does'nt hinder the abillty to function in society "normaly". I dont know if it helps I really havent given it much thought.
CounslerCoffee 10-16-02, 05:50 PM I know Im not that smart but I do know im bipolar. I could go insane.
Clockwood 10-16-02, 06:36 PM Moderatly autistic here. 143 IQ as well. The average is like 110 or something. Oxygen depletion in the womb screwed be up royally.
Mental defects are a blessing to me.
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-16-02, 06:45 PM Not fair, why can't I have a birth defect? *pout* :D
But I don't think I need one...I'm doing a damn good job of pretending I need help, and that's good enough for now. :D *twitch* :D
CounslerCoffee 10-16-02, 07:00 PM BlueSoulRobot if you want a mental defect just sniff glue.
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-16-02, 07:55 PM Done. :) *gets some glue, car exhaust, turpentine, permanent markers, correction fluid, burning chunk of asbestos, cooking spray...* I'm surrounded!
BlueSoulRobot if you want a mental defect just sniff glue.
There's an easier way. Go to a pychiatrist. I had loads til I stopped going.
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-16-02, 08:03 PM Lol, bliss is ignorance. :D
Clockwood 10-20-02, 10:33 PM A better way to blow neurons. Watch TV.

He didn't speak until age four. He had a lot of other idiosyncrasies too, so maybe he didn't wear socks. His brain structure was consistent with the brain structure of an autistic person.
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-21-02, 07:34 PM Wow..didn't know that! :D Thanks NiteTrax, and Welcome to SciForums! :)
nitetrax 10-21-02, 09:21 PM Actually, we've discussed this very thing at great length in another thread called "What is the point of geniusness?" Check that thread out. Some agree, some do not.
%BlueSoulRobot% 10-21-02, 09:35 PM All right, will do. :) I think I might have said something there...
unbalanced 11-21-02, 03:06 PM Science should not be taken too seriously,if it were really that important, mankind would not have survived millions of years without it,and I hear the replies already'Evolution is science...bla bla",science is just a field of study, mankinds way of feeling he has control of something when he doesn't,never has,and never will have control of anything.A narrow deep knowledge base is like book smart with no common sense, pretty useless if you can't
do anything but your job with it.
Oh yeah, this is just my opinion too, nerds.
goofyfish 11-21-02, 03:21 PM Better a nerd...
unbalanced 11-21-02, 03:37 PM Nerds tend to be taken by surprise because they think they know all they need to know and are usually not expecting to find out almost everthing they know is wrong, what do you claim for a profession phisch?.
sciencegeek 11-22-02, 12:52 AM Being a genious doesn't necessarily mean that one is insane. Exceptionally brilliant people do tend to have eccentric tendancies but I think that is primarily because they don't see things the way "normal" people do. I personally feel sorry for people that consider themselves normal. They spend their whole life searching for something that doesn't exist. Normality only exists in a first person world and varies with the individual. If someone were to find eccentric people insane then in their eyes that is true. I personally think that a majority of eccentrics, myself included, are only harmful to people that fear change and difference. Every now and then you get someone truly insane that takes part in the harm of other beings but as a whole the world needs to learn tolerance of others.:p
unbalanced 11-22-02, 06:05 AM Science serves to make things seem more complex than they really are, people who have a grasp on some things beyond others feel superior to those who don't,when in the end it makes no real difference what you know.
Clockwood 11-22-02, 09:46 PM I am a nerd and I probabally have an inferiority complex. Thankfully the internet allows me to be a pompous ass because people dont quite seem like people. I DEFINATLY dont know all I need to know.
pumpkinsaren'torange 11-23-02, 11:35 AM i just have one question.
how come both the following words sound the same (pronunciation) ...yet, they are spelled using different vowels/ but/and having the same sound ??
separate - desperate.
what gives??
Clockwood 11-23-02, 02:12 PM The english language is seriously &#&@^ up, thats why. Remember, we have had standerdized spelling for only about 150-200 years (im guessing). How to spell many things was decided largely arbitrarily.
What does this have to do with anything though?
pumpkinsaren'torange 11-23-02, 03:26 PM i dunno...i guess it just proves the validity of this thread....i'm insane.:D besides...i was just thinking...and, that thought popped into my head ..so, i wrote it down. dunno...go figure.:p :D
platzapS 01-03-03, 10:00 PM I'm a genius, a nerd, and many call me insane. I'm proud of it.
Moderatly autistic here. 143 IQ as well. The average is like 110 or something
If the average is not 100, your IQ test is not valid.
If it is valid, maybe it is safe to say that your IQ in valid terms is 133, but I think that is not a good way of looking at it.
%BlueSoulRobot% 01-08-03, 04:30 PM Is it enough to want to be insane, to become insane? :(
beautiful beautiful insanity... :m:
Is it enough to want to be insane, to become insane?
I think that as long as you can ask yourself that question with some fear, you're still ok.
