Action in the face of injustice

What is the role of a human when faced with something that to him or her is unjust? As humans, do we have a moral obligation to remedy the situation? Example: A thief escaping from the bank is about to run past you.

I think morals are different for everyone.
I feel guilty if I see injustice and do nothing about it.
However, different people have different definitions of justice too...
My sense of justice would be more likely to make me aid the bank robber than stop him.

This is a paraphrase since I don't have the book on me, and can't find the quote...

"Living life by anyone's morals but your own is living an immoral life." Ayn Rand
